Fuel Mileage while towing

I'm wondering if I have something going on with my 2015 30DS... towing a 2-dr Jeep Wrangler, I got 6.25 mpg going over the Coastal Range here in Oregon....
Speed limits everywhere 45 - 55 mph...
The fuel consumption is not good.
I know there are a lot of factors... and I really don't care but I'm routing my summer trip coming up and would like to not have to stop all the time...
It's only about 60 to 90 miles (depending on which part of the coast we go to) one way but it's weird to be looking at a half tank after not being that far away from home...
This summer's trip will be roughly 2000 miles... @6.5mpg I'm looking at 308 gallons and at $3.00 / gal... I could be looking at $924 for the trip....

Just wondering what others are getting...

Thanks

Todd

You getting about the same mileage as we do. Which we tow a Minivan on a dolly, which is at least 5,000 lbs total. I usually budget 6 mpg to be safe when planning trips. And we drive at about 62-65 mph. It is what it is I guess. Some say they get 8 mpg, but we've never seen that, even empty.

I don't think mine would get 8 if I turned the motor off and coasted....
I have a buddy with a class C... he gets about 9.5 he says... same motor and everything. He isn't as long and not as tall but I'd think it would weigh about the same....
He might be exaggerating somewhat...

I've gotten anywhere between 7.5 and 9mpg towing a jeep yj. This is up and down the mountains of Colorado. I'd do anything to be on flat land for a whole tank of gas!

I'm a light foot but 6.5 seems low to me.

Wow $3.00 a gal!!!!!. We are at $1.38 in Va. But when we are on the road we seem to stay in the east so we tow aroun 7 mpg, not a lot of mountains.

Mine is the same mileage, I don't know how long your summer vacation is but remember its cheaper then a motel every night and your sleeping in your own bed.

With the Tundra pulling a 23' travel trailer at around 6000lbs, I could get 10 - 11 per gallon. I just traded up to a 39.9' trailer 8+000 lbs, and got 7 to 9 per gallon. Now I just got a 250 ford with a turbodiesel. I got an average of 11.4 per gallon on a 5000 mile trip. I think you have to match up your rig with the correct combination of load and power.

We just got back from an Arizona Desert road trip and our average cost per day for 12 days was $107. We stayed at friends, KOA, and Arizona State Parks during our trip. We did cook in the FR3 a few times, but mostly ate out.

The average also included our fuel cost. We were so happy that gas prices were low. It was much better than getting a hotel room. The best part, our FR3 behave and performed throughout the trip. It really handle the back roads nicely.
