Furnace/thermostat issue for FR3 30DS
I saw an older thread regarding a propane furnace that won't stay running, several possible solutions were discussed. We're on the road for the winter and having the same sporadic problem, looking for updated information.
Furnace will run for 10 mins or so but then shuts off, often will not relight regardless of thermostat setting. I have to switch the furnace off or some other thermostat change so it will kick back on. After a few resets, the problem will sometimes go away only to return unexpectedly.
Propane tank is almost at half full, outside temperature has no effect on this issue. All heat registers seem to have good airflow.
If anyone has updated information as to cause and/or a solution, I would appreciate it. My FR3 is still under warranty, but since we're on the road, I'd be willing to pay someone if I can point them in the right direction.
Thank you.

The only input I can offer is, If you hire someone and have to point them in the right direction, then hire someone else with the expertise needed. Sorry you're having difficulty.

You don't say if this is a "new" issue or one that's occurred since the MH was new. One potential issue is inadequate air flow, usually due to kinks and/or obstructions in the hot air ducting. This causes the hot air plenum to heat up too much and the overtemperature limit switch shuts off the furnace.
So first thing I'd do is inspect as much of the ducting as I could get to and resolve any kinks and/or tight turns. Some people have replaced tight turns with 4" smooth metal elbows from Home Depot.
You might want to read this guys thread; it's really kicking his butt!!

Thanks Rockfordroo and the rest. Certainly defined the problem. I'll do a bit of testing and see if a simple fix will work. If not, I'll have some ammunition when I get back to the dealer.

Not that will help, but I had an issue where it wouldn't lite off one winter. I had to pull the 12v fuse in the bedroom to the furnace in order to reset everything. Switching the breaker on/off had no impact. Give that a whirl. Just pull the fuse out, wait a bit, reinstall the fuse. It only happened that one time last year for some reason. Didn't have an issue this past winter.

Here is what we found
We had a similar problem and discovered from another thread (thank you Forest River Forums) that the problem was that we had not fully turned on the propane at the tank. A little thing but it caused our furnace to come on for a short time, then turn off without heating. Fully opening the valve at the tank solved the problem! Hope yours is this easy.

I recently had a problem with my furnace. All was well until I ran out of propane. I know, I didn't check to see if the second tank was full when I took delivery of the 2016 5th wheel 377FLIK. After filling up the tanks I couldn't get the furnace to light no matter how many times I tried. Instead of towing it 100 miles to the dealer and leaving the it there for who knows how long, I went to a local rv repair shop about 20 miles away. Described the problem to the tech. He immediately check the Thermostat, for air in the lines and if the furnace was trying to light and getting propane. I had to replace the furnace control board. Its been working like a champ since then. What I am getting at is, I too have read post till my eyes have crossed and spent countless hours trying different suggestions. I have come to the conclusion to take it to a place you trust and let them do the repairs. I spent 1 1/2 hours and $184.50 at the local repair shop. Just makes since not having to worry over a problem.
Even on the road I will ask around for someone that does repairs.
Good luck and happy camping.

My thoughts exactly Semi-Retired.
I'm as thrifty as the next guy, but I also know my limitations. Finding a good RV repair shop on the road can also be a challenge. My local RV place at home is great... and I know which techs are the best.
I will try the simple steps suggested in the Forum first, get professional help as needed.
Thanks.

Did you figure this out? We are having the same problem. We've been told it has to do with voltage and our batteries are not good

Had the identical problem with my rig when it was 1 year old. I did run low on propane and when refilled would sometimes run but most times run once and then require a reset and then might run again. I thought that it might be the regulator or tank overfill or something related to propane. It seemed that once the ignition had lit once, it would light again but the system did not recognize the flame and would go into lockout which requires the 12 volt to be reset by switching the thermostat to off and then retrying.
Finally they replaced the control board under warranty and the problem disappeared.

Yes colourful64, I believe we have fixed the problem. While checking furnace ducts for airflow, I noticed that items in the bedroom had shifted and blocked the vent. The bathroom duct was also partially blocked. After rearranging a few things and verifying good airflow, all is good. Thanks Forum!
