We always use the blue paper towels that they use for the windows and hold it under the nozzle.

I always thought asking for a ZIP code when using a credit card to buy gas was for security and it may be some places. My wife said it was for marketing surveys so I have tried other codes and so it has taken whatever I put in no problem. For Canadians who don't have zip codes I would recommend trying 12345 as it is a valid code for NY.

As a Canadian ,I use that zip code for everything, even when I'm researching online.
