I'm not an expert in credit card security procedures, but I don't see how asking for your ZIP code before pumping fuel can be an effective security measure.

Think about it - if you go to any establishment and buy anything, you get a receipt that has, among other things, the ZIP code on it. You get a receipt whether you purchase anything with either a stolen credit card or cash.

So assuming you go to a Walmart, buy a loaf of bread and then go get fuel at the Murphy's. The ZIP code is on the receipt and there you go.

I thought the zip code was supposed to match up with the billing address of the card holder. At least that's how some e-commerce systems worked a few years back when I was writing them.

I have never taken notice, but I didn't think the cardholder's zip code was printed on the receipt.

And when you get your wallet out to pay for your gas, check your DL for your ZIP code.

I hope you feel bad about buying that cheap gas. It's worth way more than that here in neighbourhood. $1.33 /L

Calif has a $125 limit. (Gas prices are higher here)..

But the way around it is to go into the store, hand your card to the cashier and ask them to turn on the pump....

(Then there is no set spending limit)

Then you can pump all you need, and sign for it when you go back in.

I've done this all across the country.

It works everywhere I've been.

There was one station in Vegas that had a $100 limit a couple of years ago.
It sat on the Boulder Hwy.

Thought it was a pain, stopped out of town on the way back home at a truck stop on I-15.

Your real name is Nick Sample? Are you related to Mary Sample from the health card department?
