Gas Credit Card Limits

Quick Check gas stations in New Jersey have a $75 limit for Visa, MasterCard, etc per stop. Is this common elsewhere in the US? With an 80 gallon tank and $3.50 gas, I would need to stop at multiple stations to fill up.

Same here in La. I just stay at the pump and restart it with another purchase.

Throughout our travels we have experienced limits, however, just get your receipt, then re insert credit card for additional filling...works every time.

Fast Trip here in Bakersfield, California has a $75 limit plus 35 cent transaction fee on my debit card. If its cheap enough I will go there otherwise I goto 24/7 travel center which has no limit and no transaction fee for using my debit card.

Wow- if you run down near empty and want to fill up you are talking some
SERIOUS money!!!
As others have said you can just re-start the pump.
Also if you know the station has a limit, I believe you can go inside and
get pre-approved at the counter and go out and pump as much as you need.

Then you have to go back inside to finish the transaction.
I sometimes send the DW inside with the plastic while I stand at the pump
and wait for the signal to begin the bleeding er I mean fueling!!

Varies by station in Iowa, but a number of them cut off at $75 . . . whether it's a traditional credit card, or debit. At most, the debit card continues past the $75 mark, and thankfully, many stations don't yet have a limit. Like others, I just start the pump again, and re-swipe the card.

Just some FYI while in New Jersey, one of the only states that YOU CAN NOT pump your own gas, so you either tip the attendant or pull out and go to the next pump, with a different attendant.
