Check any FR dealer (even non-FR3 dealer works) and ask if they can order those PN listed in this thread. Someone else did that and worked out. It took the rep a couple of days to respond back to me via email, so maybe give them some time.

You will have to go through your dealer.

I'd expect if you don't have a vent on your generator door, that you might have vapor lock issues while driving down the road. That vent cover will fit any RV since its cut to fit setup. Just not sure about the color, if that'll match the Georgetowns.

Since I have the Ace, my dealer needed a model to look it up.
I used FR3 30D.

I put 2 stainless steel 4 louver marine vents in our generator door. They measure approx. 10" x 4". They seem to be working well as I've had no problems with vapor lock or anything else.
I'd post a picture but, for some reason I'm unable to upload them.

My RV tech explained that the 4000 series have air intake on side of the unit, the 5500 have air intake on the bottom of the unit. So a vent door on the side may not help your Georgetown. Wish these things were figured out before they get to us. :-)

This is probably true. My comments were specific to the Onan 4kw genset. Good catch.

KansasFR3, glad yours is reliable again. I was excited when I saw your post on the fix....then bummed when my tech explained why it wouldn't work for me. Oh well, we travel more in the cooler weather anyway. Safe travels.

I have the onan 4k on my forester 2801. So as I understand a vent is a good idea regardless due to intake for gen is on side?

For sure. And when I was at the Onan dealership, he said most of the cases that they've have seen was when the generator was in the first compartment behind the engine compartment. Where most of the heat is coming off the engine. You could always get an FR3 vent or any other vent to be rework into your doors.

Has anyone ordered the FR parts and know the price. I ask cause you can buy pretty nice vents that would work for under 20 bucks on Amazon.

They sent them to be free of charge. I had to trim them to fit but worked out great

I have a 2016 Georgetown GT3 that I bought right before summer and spent the whole summer with this problem. Thanks so much for bringing this solution to light. I looked and the 2017 GT3 have the vent as well. i e-mailed FR customer service to see if they will send me the parts as well.

Just to clarify when you added the fuel pump is it a second pump or did you remove the original?

Thanks Again!

Interesting thread! I have an Onan 4K in my Stealth toy hauler and I'm wondering if I should do this mod. Granted, I don't have engine heat from a motorhome pushing into the gen bay when the gen is running, but I do camp in some 100-degree-plus areas where the gen is running the A/C ALL day, and the discharge air is VERY warm. That air blows out from under the trailer on the door side, making sitting there under the awning uncomfortable (not to mention, my beer cooler gets blasted by the hot air!).

Thoughts? Worth it for my trailer?

Thanks!

Color matching the full body paint won't be cheap. Unless FR will pick up the paint tab, which is unlikely, I think I'd go with a set of stainless steel after market vents.

I agree the stainless vent like the pic from Waiter21 in post 4 is about 20 dollars.

The vents aren't the only thing that were recommended. There is a directional tube that attaches to the door vent straight to the air breather on the side. This gives the air breather better flow. So if you do buy something else, you might want to consider this also. See very first post. I did this mod also and it was easy to do. Forest River sent me the parts for free including shipping.

Gen mod

I also did the vent mod on our 2016 30ds. FR sent me the vent assy for free and the outside grill was painted by FR to match before they shipped it. The plastic baffle is the most important part of the mod so that the air is taken in from the side instead of under neath. It is an easy mod to make and is very effective. FR has been very helpful in all matters on our coach.

Genny Vent

I love this post. Although when I talked to Forest River and used the Part numbers posted they said they were not valid part numbers.
Vent Cover PN: 70A08495A
Vent Shroud PN: 70A08493A
Anyone have any other ideas I would love to make this mod before the season begins.
