Generator not providing power to 110 outlets

1st time I've run the generator to power the 110 outlets and no juice. It does power the a.c. Any ideas to solve this would be appreciated.

Are you absolutely sure that your 30/50 amp plug is plugged into the receptacle in the storage compartment? We do not have automatic transfer switches.

Think so but will check. Interesting that you mention no auto transfer switch. It just goes to show you that two shop techs, one where we bought our word on and Camping World and Camping World here at Tallahassee both said it may be a faulty transfer switch. What you have said about the cable being plugged in makes a lot of sense since it would make it a manual transfer. Couldn't find anything in the FR owners manual that would tell me that. Thanks again.

The OP said the airconditioner is powered.

This is probably my biggest gripe of my 32DS. $88k and they still can’t put in a $200 transfer switch so that I don’t have to manually plug the coach in. I almost think it’s a safety failsafe though from an engineering perspective. If the transfer switch somehow fails, which I can’t see how this would ever happen, and you turn on the generator, there is a chance the plug becomes electrified and therefore a hazard.

I guess this is also why I have bought a 50A receptacle to relocate my shore power line so I can disconnect it. So all in all, $500 factoring in my time, to fix Forest River’s incompetence. And I would have gladly paid $500 more to avoid doing this mod myself. Now I just have to find the time to do all this.

Then check breakers. Just a quick check on the plug to humor me.

Check breaker on the generator. Flip it off and back on.

I had the same problem first time out with our first MH. There is a 30 amp plug in box in the electrical storage cubby. Your shore line has to be plugged into that to get generator power to your system.
The latest one MH is automatic.

Checked gfi, will check breaker on gen. Checked couple of weeks ago and it was ok. Thanks again for your help. Seems there are a lot of owners following this thread. Wonder, why.

Thx. A/C worked. Thought that would be dependent on having the power cord connected. I have experienced the plug shaking loose going on the interstate so I check it. Don't know why they don't install auto switch at the factory.

If the AC was running then the genny is making 110 power. You can power a single AC from a 15amp 110 cord (use a converter plug on main cable). It how i power my ac when loading next to the house and not in the barn. (so wife doesnt get hot while restocking).

Check all listed above by others. Also check with a meter to see if both legs are powered or not. You have 2 - 110 legs that are 15amp each to reach 30amp-110v.

GFI

Many times on threads like this (and there are many) it ends up being the GFI. The plug that masters the other plugs is in the Bathroom, or sometimes elsewhere. It gets bumped, and shuts off, Push the button off (test) and then reset it on the other button. Then check your plugs again.

anolefan4life, you don't want 110 in both legs on your plug, only 110 in the bottom left leg. Check some of Wmtire's posts on wiring, he will straighten that out for you. Otherwise you will have more troubles than you want to deal with.

Good Luck

This statement is incorrect.
With 30amp power you have 1 leg at 30amps - 120volts, 1 neutral leg and a ground. If you have 2 separate 120volt legs, you will be without either a neutral or a ground. Thereby, you will have 240volts. Which is not what you want.

With 50amp power you will have leg 1 at 50amp, 1 neutral leg, leg 2 at 50amp, and 1 ground.

Agree with Tom 3205 - find breaker switch on generator and flip it back and forth to “on”. Had same problem and this worked.
