Generator problem

Ok gang, when my generator (Onan 4000) is running I do not get power to the house. I checked the interior and electrical outlets and no power. Checked known breakers, all on. Any ideas?

Sounds like auto relay is stuck. A good tapping will usually loosen it. Should be close to electric panel. This allows the Gen to automatically kick in after Gen reaches proper current.

Make sure A/C is off and shore power is off or disconnected before starting Generator. There is also a Switch/Breaker that needs to be on. It is located on the Generator itself on the 4000.

My electrical panel is in the bed room, do I hit the panel? I know about the switch/breaker located on the generator. Will try and disconnect plug before starting. Heck I'll try anything to keep from paying the high price to get it repaired.

You may want to check to see if your generator is still under warranty, Onan warranty is 3 years.

hello,

Is there a receptacle in the bay were your power cord is? Some needs to be plugged into the receptacle to work.

Okay group, we did all the breakers, tapped the junction box, re-plugged the plug and cranked the generator...I have coach power again. Thank you all for your suggestions. Go figure...

It's simple trouble shooting. With generator running check breaker inside generator housing to right of start switch. Then check for power at outlet in compartment that you plug shore power in. It's 120 volt 30 amp. If you don't have a mutual meter. Use adapter for shore power to 15 amp plug than plug in a fan or lamp in adapter. If it runs it's past there, but shouldn't work on shore power either.

Also on the FR 3 your shore power plug gets plugged into receptacle on back wall of power compartment.

We had this issue last week. Removed the cover for the generator and found 2 breaker switches on the actual generator that were tripped. Not sure if this would be the issue in your case but worth a look.

Good Luck!
