Good idea or bad? Hose quick disconnects...

so i added hose quick disconnects to the city water, fresh water fill, and black tank flush inputs on the side of the coach. i think these are going to work well -- so i won't have to screw/unscrew the hose connections off every time. on my 29DS, the input connections are plastic and i can see them failing after a bunch of connecting and disconnecting. also added quick disconnects to the fresh water input hose around connection and filter...finally, found rubber stoppers to use in the holes to plug when not in use.

do y'all use them too?

Tried them and noticed a major decrease in flow. YMMV... they do make life easier though.

Your thoughts are correct, they plastic ones will fail after a few seasons. I have replaced mine already.

am using these...

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Yardsmith-Y...r-Set/50328307

i have three male ends on the water connects to the coach. Lowes sells the set or individual male/female connectors so you can mix/match as needed to your needs. no drips, leaks -- and super easy to connect.

NOT using on the connection to city water. leaving that one manual as i know i will surely forget them when packing up!

best of luck all

small black rubber stoppers were found in the hardware section. use the 3/8"-- i think -- that fit perfect in the male end of the disconnect...

just to keep the holes covered and the critters out

I've looked at them and only had one question that maybe someone here can answer for me. When I connect to the water source at a campground, the first thing I do is run the water until the hose is full, then connect it to the coach. That gets all (or most) of the air out of the line as well as flushing out any stale water that may be in there from the last use. On a side note, I carry a spray bottle of bleach water that I spray both ends of the hose and the connections with prior to connecting (seen too many people playing with hose bibs and their black water hoses at the same time!). With the quick disconnects, how do you make sure you're not pushing a great deal of air into your piping system, which then causes issues when some items, especially tankless water heaters?

The hose connection has an open discharge, it's just made for a quick connection, so you should be able to continue doing things your way still. Just hook it up after filling the hose.

I have used them, but they may cut down on your water pressure, depending on Campground pressure. I ended up attaching short hoses to each with a y with cut offs. Works great & no pressure loss.

I have been using them for years and they work fine. I do keep a water pressure gauge on the incoming water though as pressure can be a problem down the road. Actually I turn off water each time we go out to prevent any uncalled for accidents (like a pipe breaking)

I use them all the connections. Bought most of them from Harbor freight. I put a 1/2 inch of old hose on the fresh water and the black flush and put the cap tat came with the trailor on it.

I don't have quick disconnects... I have thought about it. I always turn on the water before connecting...flush that baby out...in case.

I had the same concern about the plastic connector on my fresh water intake, so I installed quick connects about eight years ago and have never had a problem. I also assembled a dummy quick connect plug and cap to protect the inlet when on the road. I also purchased a standard garden hose nozzle and equipped it with a quick connect, which I can use with my fresh water hose whenever needed without having to screw or unscrew anything. It all works for me.

Mine are plastic so I put the quick connects on them but they still leak. I need to figure out how to replace the pieces from the factory that are plastic.

I always thought about using these, for the last 10 or so years. I did finally buy some about a month ago, and then used them this weekend.

GOOD GOD why was I so stupid ten years ago! 2 seconds.

We did this mod this year - I can't believe how much time it saves on hooking up - trying to get the hose at the right angle to screw in had been a nightmare.

Also added the 90 degree elbow - that way when you unhook the hose it doesn't dump all the water into the compartment. So that's cool.

I used brass quick connects from camco - they've worked well so far.
