I have a Rand McNally 5510 and one of the many things I don’t like about this GPS is when you get a major map update it changes many of the settings back to the default. Another major downfall is the campground POI function doesn’t have the correct location for many campgrounds. If you use the RM POI function to plan a route you might end up in the middle of nowhere.
Case in point, recently while camping at a SP I decided to check out the nearby Landing Point RV Park in Cape Girardeau. Using the POI function to plan our route we ended up on Spring Ave with the GPS telling we had arrived at our destination but was displaying the correct address of the campground on Boutin Dr. We were 4 miles from the actual campground.
Next we typed in the Longitude and Latitude coordinates of the campground and the RM GPS displayed the message “No legal route found.”
Finally we plugged in the actual address of the campground (3020 Boutin Dr.) and the RM GPS took us right to the Landing Point RV Park. In case you are wondering, yes, my RM GPS is using the most update maps available.
As far as I’m concerned the RM GPS isn’t ready for prime time. I believe the Good Sam GPS is made by Rand McNally.
