Heat pump

I have a 2015 FR3 30DS and I've never been able to get the so-called heat pump to work. The control box is on the wall across from the refrigerator and when the slide out is in it almost covers it. What setting must it be in to get the heat pump to work? Dry? Heat? If l set it to dry the roof unit comes on, but no warm air. If l set it to heat something under the refrigerator comes on, but no heat. Any help?

Just a crazy thought. Have you confirmed that you have the optional heat pump module in the roof unit?

Although I have a wall thermostat that has settings for it, My 2014 DS did not offer it. I've read in IRv forum that you can add the module aftermarket.

Our 2015 unit came with a Dometic AC unit, which doesn't have a heat pump. Thermostat only controls the furnace for heat. I'm not sure when the switch over to the Atwood AC units occurred, but that'll have the heat pump. The 2nd AC we recently installed in the bedroom is an Atwood 15k and its pretty slick. I'm tempted to change out my Dometic AC unit up front for it.

The Atwood Air-command has the heat pump.. As an FYI, it only runs when's when the outside air temp is above 45 degrees. Otherwise the furnace runs.

Sir my 3015 FR3 30DS has the Atwood Air Command. What setting is needed to make the heat pump work. I full understand that it must be above 45 degrees in order for it to come on but I've never been able to make it work mostly because I don't know how to make it work. Should l set it in Cool, Dry, Heat, fan? Please any help would be grateful.

I can't say about an RV heat pump, but I can say about residential heat pumps, I've installed and worked on more than I can count.

It basically runs your A/C in reverse. If it's too cold it's pointless, it depends on defrost modes and emergency heat, which could run your compressor and heat strips which pulls more electricity than regular electric heat or propane.

What's the benefit of a heat pump in an rv?

One other quick question, is the Jeep to tall to tow 4 on the ground or do you need the trailer for the places you go.

It isn't "FAN" and it isn't "COOL." If "HEAT" turns on the furnace, then the only remaining option is "DRY" - but dry is for dehumidifying only.

So, it doesn't look like you have a heat pump. See this manual which I hope helps:

Operating Instructions

Quote:
The DRY mode is used when the room temperature is close to comfortable but you wish to dehumidify.

Press MODE button to highlight DRY.

Set the temperature to desired setpoint.

N.B: the fan speed is locked in LOW.

The compressor will cycle on and off at approximate intervals of 6 minutes to extract moisture from the air.
For a heat pump model, these are the settings:

Quote:
Control settings are on both thermostat and remote
On/off button
Up and down arrows let you adjust the set temperature
Fan button allows you to switch between low, medium, high, and auto settings
Mode button lets you switch between cool, heat pump, dry, and fan
Sleep button helps to save energy overnight
Timer can be set to turn unit on or off up to 24 hours in advance
Lock function will keep the thermostat from automatically cycling to the fan

Mine just works if set to heat and the outside temp is above 45. It could be that the wiring is connected incorrectly. Beyond that I have no suggestions. These systems can be frustrating..

Perhaps Wayne if you turn it to Heat and don't press to turn on the Furnace button?

When I set it to heat the furnace comes on, the furnace light or button didn't do anything.[emoji15]

At Temps >70° your A/C will run

The other controls are "Manual" Controls and will run the unit in that mode regardless of set temperature:
Cool runs A/C only
Heat Runs Furnace only
Fan - well that just circulates outside air inside

Final note: a lot of RV thermostats are not that accurate, and ambient temperature will depend on where the temperature sensor is placed in the unit, and if the RV wall containing the sensor is exposed to direct sunlight. Thus, you may need to adjust the temperature up or down to suit your personal tastes.

Heat Pump

We use ours in a 2017 30DS. Set your control to "Heat" and fan on Auto. Furnace has a separate button on the middle bottom of the control for direct heat below the 45 degree requirement.
