Hot water heater

Do I need to shut off the electric heater to use the propane heater?

No, you can use both at same time...either with an Atwood or Suburban brand.

If you have the Suburban, this may help:

Just a reminder:

Always make sure that the water heater if FULL before powering on either system.

No need to shut off the 110 unless you are draining the tank. Just remember if using both it will rarely light on propane because the electric will keep it hot.

That's basically how I've run mine, except I just got the propane switch before a shower and turn it off after. I figure the electric will keep it hot and the propane will help keep up during showers, but I shut it off to save propane although I guess that's unnecessary

Leaving both on will allow a quicker recovery, but it's not going to keep up like an odwh. Granted a odwh is way too much of a hassle for a mobile application.
