Installation of slideout motor

Hi all,

I just got my FR back from having the main slide motor replaced.

It took five weeks for the dealer to get the part and 6 hours to install.

My extended warranty covered 2.5 hours of labor and $100 less on the part than te dealer charged.

Oy!

I just went to put the bedroom slide out and guess what?

That's right, it is broken showing the same symptoms !

My question is........how difficult is it to replace the motor, assuming I can get one.

I am quite handy and willing to tackle the project!

We are heading South in 3 weeks.

Thanks in advance

Installation of slideout motor

Did it work when you picked it up from the dealer? What are the symptoms? Could be the problem is something other than the motor. Maybe a bad switch or a short in the line.

The main slide made the same noise before the motor and gearbox were replaced.

Now the bedroom slide is making the same noise. it moves in or out
Several inches before stopping and making a grinding noise.

I am guessing that since te symptoms are te same that the motor/gearbox need to be replaced

There is allot to read about the plastic gear inside the gearbox. It's been awhile but there was somebody on this forum that ordered a bunch of those gears and was selling them. Do a search here and on E-Bay

Contact forest river directly. This was a known quality issue, they should help you with repair cost.

Norco Accuslide

I have had 2 motors replaced and contacted Norco Customer Service, a Norco technician returned my call and helped me with cables on the slide after one came loose. You can find the contact info online or call.

Our dealer in Elkhart got the motor gearbox in 1 hour and replaced the broken part in less than four hours. All covered in warranty less than one year

I carry a spare motor with the gear box. You can buy them off ebay from a guy in california. Takes a little work to get to the motor (and put the trim back) The actual motor replacement is pretty easy. Since having replaced one and now having a spare....there are of course nomore failures......its like they know.

My main slide broke. FR3 30DS 2913 model.
The repair guy in Tucson tells me FR is charging $250 for motor and gear assembly. Should be down here in 1 to 2 weeks.
When he removed the covers showing the gears, chain, cables. Noted one side was tighter then the other. Also cables, top and bottom had slack between them. Suggests to me, either cables stretched / slipped or might have been Mis-adjusted?
Will know more after it gets fixed!

Make a report to NHTSA, might get a recall going if they get enough reports.

I dont think this is a safety issue. So unless the slide extends while motoring down the road, NHTSA is not going to be interested.

A flood of complaints to the BBB with a copy to RIVA might get better results.

There is already a recall for same system but different part and different year but the recall came from complaint to NHTSA.

If your gear is broken there is nothing holding the slide in any more. That is why you should make blocks of wood that fit above inside of closed slide when the gear or cable is broken. So it can't fall out while driving.

That is true however if there is no official recall it MIGHT generate enough attention to get factory support at an acceptable level. BTW, RIVA has no enforcement power either.

So IF the slide can come out while the unit is in motion then NHTSA paper would be appropriate. Dèjá Vu
