Installing clear plexiglass in FR3 Entrance Door

I would like any information on installing a clear plexiglass window in the FR3 Entrance door. Thank you for any install tips.

I would either buy a kit or get some glass cut locally to fit the same one you pull out.

I've thought about this kit before, just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it. But the videos are useful none the less to get an idea how it all goes together. Let us know how it goes.

Send a message via Yahoo to bob caldwell
Both Lexan and Plexiglass will scratch, over time just from cleaning...

I too recommend Lexan. If you get your measurements accurate, you can buy a single sheet at Lowes that will insert for all the sections of the door. Walk in with the right measurements and they'll cut the Lexan sheet into sections for you for free. I did my Kodiak TT a couple of years ago and it cost me about $60 as I recall.

We added a plexiglas insert, sourced and cut to size at Ace Hardware, to the bottom part of our front door. Keeps the cat from messing up the screen.

I'm going to do that to ours too, only in an opaque one so the dogs don't try to go thru the screen when they see something they think they need to investigate without our supervision.

Just remember if using glass in a door it has to be safety glass, tempered glass, and that has to be cut before it is tempered. You cannot cut tempered glass. I worked in a glass shop for years.

I used Lexan on the bottom of the screen door. Lexan is more durable than acrylic. As mentioned, took measurements and had it cut to size at the hardware store for free. Attached it with black velcro strips which is working very well and allows easy removable if desired. Did bottom of door only due to young grandkids and pets who seem obsessed with pushing against the door, but screen only top still allows fresh air to circulate.

I went to Home Depot and bought a heavy duty sheet of clear plastic.
Cut it to size and slid it into a track on the inside of the screen door. At least the inside is protected from the dogs.

I've done my screen door and 4 others including 2 FR3's (all outside installs). I purchase 2 separate sheets (1 for the top & 1 for the bottom), and a 15 foot roll of 1" Velchro (white or black depending on your screen door color).
I then measure the bottom (including the little square area next to the slider if it's screen also) and use a sabre saw w/24 tpi blade to cut the lexan. Draw lines on the protective covering, cut slow and the cut will come out great. Tear off protective sheet off inside of lexan and attach velchro all around the perimeter. Install velchro on the door frame (cutting it narrower on any narrow frame pieces). Attach the lexan to the door then peal off the outer protective sheeting.

Repeat for the top. I used a scrap piece of lexan to draw and cut a pattern for the top radius of the door.

Using the velchro method makes a weather tight seal making it more like a residential screen door. You can remove either the top or bottom as desired.

We are able to leave the outer door open and remain comfortable inside in temps down into the 40's.

Suggestion: Find a Cedar Creek 5th wheel and take a look at the door. It comes with a mylar film "storm/winter" insert. They are light, easy to store and easy to replace if damaged. Other FR units may have that option as well. You could probably call Cedar Creek parts and find all the info you need.

Door Window

Had semi-one-way safety glass from CW installed. The tint isn't too bad and it has to be bright to see in. Will make it part of the deal on new 5r.

X2, I was a glass cutter in a glass tempering factory. Personally, I would install real tempered glass or safety glass because as one poster said the other stuff scratches easily.
