Insurance
I am considering purchasing a new FR3 and I am new to the motor coach world. I have had a travel trailer and am moving up to a different experience. Are there any suggestions on insurance? What should I look for and be concerned about? Who are the best insurers from a rate and reliability perspective? Any comments welcome. Thanks!

When comparing coverages you want to make sure you get full replacement coverage. Another thing to consider is the towing coverage. Do they tow to the nearest "garage" or to the nearest "authorized repair agent". That is a big thing to consider. Of course you can get roadside coverage as a separate policy from people like Good SAMs, AAA, Coach-Net, etc. There are a lot of insurers to choose from for your basic coverage. I personally use Progressive, your deductible reduces by 25% every year you go without a claim. After 4-consecutive years with no claim your deductible is $0!! Policy prices will of course vary depending on coverages selected, amount of deductible, etc. Similar to your home owners insurance, you can choose to get personal property coverage to insure the contents.

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that there are a lot of different companies offering insurance. Has anyone had to make a claim and had a good or bad experience? I am all for saving a few bucks but not if it will become a huge hassle at claim time if it happens.

I just bought a FR3 and am also shopping. The Good Sam policy agent WANs very helpful and may be the best price but beware the big selling point of being able to stop or reduce the coverage when you are parked. In New York and some other states this is worthless because you can not cancel insurance unless you turn the plates! canceling the registration. The cost of canceling and then re registering would outweigh any savings.

Just called State Farm because we are looking at a FR3 and they said $1675.00 a year. We are going to call a few others.

Waiting a week to pick the new FR 3 up is tough, but I am learning a lot. I will get the insurance companies to work hard to get my business. It worked very well when I bought the FR3.

Wolfgang, check the other "insurance" threads in FRF. Many things have already been discussed, and might steer you in the direction you need to answer questions you have.

Albert, State Farm's rates seemed high to me. Do you mind telling what they are charging for insuring just the Motor Home /yr.

I priced insurance from Progressive. If you use the MRSP value you are looking at $1500 - $1600 a year. If you use the actual sale price (hopefully lower) the insurance rate is lower! Total replacement value is your purchase price! Wonder if they would want to see the actual price paperwork?

I compared several including Good Sams and they were very close. I went with Progressive, $100 less a year and $100 glass deductible so a wash with the next closest that had no deductible.

I have Hartford on my home, cars and now RV. ( also on my business).
Im 45 yrs old and total cost per year is $450 for the 25DS. $250 deductable. Full replacement , high limits....
I thought it was more than fair.
Heck its cheaper than my auto insurance which is $675 a year for my most expensive to insure car. The other cars/truck run $250-450 a year.
