It you rotate and put the short end of the mattress at the head you will need to fold it and push mattress in before bringing in the slide. This way you can put the short end against the headboard and get a coach or smaller bed while the slide is in.

I think that the couch option only works if you have a fairly thin mattress. The older models had about a 4" mattress that folded in a few places. Our newer one has a thick mattress and while it has a 60/40 split, if you try to make it into a couch as you slide in the slide, it's too thick to be able to sit upright against the headboard and clear the window coverings easily.
The benefits of the thin mattress are having a couch to chill on with the slide in, but the benefit of the thick mattress is, well, having a thicker mattress.
We have the 40 part at the bottom and fold it up before pulling the slide in. I'd take a picture for you, but the RV is still at the dealer waiting on repairs.
