Leaving FR 3 plugged into when stored.
I just purchased an Fr3, our first motorhome, and want to know whether we should leave it plugged in when storing it. Thanks.

I keep my F53/Georgetown plugged in on the driveway when it's not being used. Unless we have visitors using it, the fridge is off and its doors open. If it was in a commercial storage lot, maybe I'd go plug it in for a couple of days a month.

We leave our 5th wheel plugged in all the time when it is home, but leave the fridge off. Our manual says the converter goes into trickle charge mode when there is little or no current draw on the battery. That is a good thing for the battery.

Hi
I took a tour of the FR3 factory yesterday and the topic of the built in charger/converter came up. The converter installed in the FR3 is more than the standard run of the mill converter. It has several different functions built in one of which is the ability to function as a float charger for the batteries. There is a control panel on the converter to control the different functions.

What is a float charger? First RV, learned a lot so far, but know nothing about converters. And what are the functions that you can control?

A float charger is what you use to keep a fully charged battery charged when it isn't being used. A converter is something that converts incoming ac to dc current. A simple converter will attempt to keep the batteries charged . I would think that should be a manual for thr converter\ charger that comes with a Fr3 in the unit that can explain its capabilities. At this point thats the best information I can offer

During the regular camping season, I leave the trailer plugged in and even the refrigerator running, usually with items in it. (My backup refrigerator ) but during the winter, I remove the battery and plug it in my basement to protect it from the weather and on a trickle charger. Nothing is being used for 5 months or so, so why put the battery through the harsh weather is how I see it.

What is the brand name of the converter in the FR3. I ma buying a 2015 3ods. i will pick it up in about 2 weeks. I am down sizing from a 39ft Mandalay pusher. I am very happy to hear that the FR3 has a smart converter.

Plug in whenever possible, this will keep your batteries charged. You also need to leave a light or two on to use the power that plugging in provides, otherwise your batteries may boil over.
