Living Room Slide Out

We are on our last trip of the year and unfortunately our big slide out stopped working. We had a guy come out and look at it and it looks like we will have to wait until we get home to get it fixed. It's a bummer, but we are not going to let it spoil our trip. Has this happened to anyone else? When we try to put it out it sounds like a jack hammer. Guy said he is sure the motor needs replacing.

If you take off the overhead trim (~4" x 10ft), you'll see the motor there. With your delivery packet that you got with the RV, there should've been a flexible cable about 12" long that will fit into the back of the motor and into a cordless/corded drill. This will allow you to move the slide in/out on a temp basis. At least you'll get home. There is a plastic gear that strips out from time to time and is probably what happened.

When mine have done this i was unable to use the tool to move the slide due to the broken gear. I just carry a spare now. So it probably never happens again.

Our gear drive on our 2014 30DS went out on our last trip. Same thing, noisy gears. We were lucky to get a mobile repair to come to our campsite, order the part and repaired the next day. Be sure whoever replaces the motor takes the part# off the gear/motor in your rig to ensure the correct one gets ordered. Usually it's just the gear box that needs to be replaced but I had the whole motor/gearbox ordered. Now I have an extra motor, just in case.

I also had the living room slide gear box recently go out on me (2016 FR3 32DS). The flex tool does not work when it's the gear box that's bad. I had a mobile tech come out to diagnose and then I ordered the part myself online here RV Supplies, RV Accessories, RV Parts, Camper Parts, 5th Wheel Hitch
It took 2 days to arrive and the tech replaced it.
