Thanks I will definitely check that... I pulled the crud out and gathered it up on a paper towel. After it dried up I rubbed some between my fingers and it turned to powder. It’s the anode.[emoji1360]

Ahhhh the water heater and the anode rod.....

Indeed 1 1/16 socket to take the rod out. Make sure to use teflon when installing your new one. Also, installing an in-line filter the catch the anode debris, you'll never have to unclog your toilet...

Don't waste your money on those junk filters unless you are really in a bind for a water filter.

For not that much more you can get a way better water filter that actually filters the water!

And doesn't split or leak the first time you 'try' to use them.

Thank you for catching the typo.

It is the big rusty bolt at the lower right corner in these photos:

Ok got it[emoji1360]. I’ll probably change it out before my next trip.

When you pull the anode out be sure to flush the WH tank out. If you leave the crud in there you might end up with the same problem. There is a service manual for just about every Suburban WH in the Library section. Forest River Forums - Downloads - WH_Service and Training Manual 05-18-11.pdf On page 19, it shows a diagram of the anode rod.

Good point I will do that. Our trip to the Grand Canyon took us along the I-40 for a couple hundred miles. The road is TERRIBLE. Potholes and patches everywhere. I’m thinking all the vibrations knocked the loose corroded crud off the anode. It will probably accumulate in the same manner on every trip we make until I change out that anode.
