Mexico or bust!

Just curious, has anyone ever traveled to Mexico on vacation in an RV. Is it safe and where could you go exactly.

I was reviewing my insurance policy with Progressive and I noticed we are paying for special coverage in Mexico. Mostly around fire and towing coverage in an accident, which got me thinking.

I would say not worth the risk. Unless you were with a large group. Such as that trip that puts the rv's on the flat bed train car's. Not sure they still do that tour. Lots of Mexico is lawless and have corrupt police, not to mention drug gangs. When I was young my father had a large sail boat but wouldn't go into the Caribbean due to drug pirates that would hijack boats.

Also there is a US marine that is in a Mexican jail because there was an antique shotgun in his rv when he was stopped in Mexico.

Looks like they stopped the copper canyon tour by train in 2007.

I have been to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) a lot but not in the last 5 years. Mostly boondocking in the desert with a large group of 8 to 10 party's.
There are several RV resorts around but they vary in standards and services.
And things are different south of the border.

So if you have progressive RV insurance you're paying for Mexico coverage, unless you already knew that they would add it in w/o telling you. Some of the more experienced, rv owners will already know that you really have to check what's on your policy after you hang up the phone.

Some insurance companies will consider the tow car a separate claim and deductible. They may not cover the tow vehicle or the trailer, you have to read the specifics.

We always had to get supplemental Mexican insurance because of regulations in Mexico. And one of our friends did have a nice Dodge Ram 1500 stolen out of a motel parking lot down there. Insurance did cover it.

The tow car might differ by state in fla a vehicle with a tow is considered 1 vehicle by the law. Non lawyer / liar . I.E. if you turn too sharp an damage your tow it's not a vehicle accident. You just damaged you own stuff.
