Adding an inverter gives me the opportunity to use electrical outlets for small wattage using items (i.e., coffee pot, toaster, small chargers, etc.) without running the generator. Depending on the wattage of the inverter determines what other items you'll be able to run without the generator. My plan is only for small wattage items, thus, only a 1000W inverter. I hope this helps.

Cool, what I'm using is a portable inverter (400 watt) plug in one of my DC outlet plug. This allows me to charge my IPad or my DW laptop. I have a portable solar unit that keeps the house batteries charged during the day. This helps me minimize the use of the gen.
