Rear slide clunking during operation

This weekend we noticed that the rear slide is clunking when we slide it in our out. It makes the clunking sound every two inches or so. I opened up the panel and each time it clunks you can see the power pack move back and forth as if there is resistance that it's overcoming.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Dealer thinks it might be a broken tooth inside the gearbox. But I wonder if there's something obstructing the slide elsewhere.

Having the same issue with our fr3 2015 25ds. Camping world had it for 2 weeks an said the gear box is the problem, they received an ok from fr to replace it. Next week it goes back once again, LOL

If you don't mind me asking ... is FR replacing it for free? I presume your vehicle is out of warranty ... but I had the impression that there was some kind of recall on these gearboxes based on some other earlier threads I found.

Camping World sent me an e mail stating our extended warr. will cover it. C/W ordered the motor an gear box an received the parts, I just have to take it in next week sometime. There seemed to be an issue with the motor I think, seems there are 2 different models so it took a long time for FR to respond.

I wonder if I've been retracting the slide too far and that's causing a problem. I usually run it 'til I hear the motor slow down then stop it and leave it there. Maybe I should be taking the tension off the gearbox?

Could be, only u can answer that, dont want to put any undo strain on it for sure. When I get mine fixed hopefully they can tell me what the direct cause was. I have used caution with mine but it still went down.

Anyone know if this is bad technique? I tend to stop the slide as soon as I hear the engine slow down and then leave it there.

Rear Slide

I have the 28DS 2015 and just had to have my motor and gear box replaced on the rear slide. Was covered under my extended warranty.

Do you know if the new gearbox is the same model as the old one? My unit that is failing has a label that says Gearbox R25076 No. 140437355 .

My dealer can't look at it 'til a month from now, I wonder how involved it is to replace one of these by myself ... I'm a little nervous about aligning the cables afterward.

Also ... anyone know how difficult it would be to install this gearbox myself?

I've had the gearbox fail on our 2015 28DS, after clunking noise it will break completely eventually.

The first two digits on the gearbox is the manufacturing yr. I had a 2016 model shipped to me directly from FR I had a mobile repair shop fix it at my house, and FR reimbursed me.

Thanks Dutch. Was that repair done under warranty? Or was there some kind of recall?

Definitively under FR warranty. I would like to know what the warranty is through Norco Bal when after a year FR warranty runs out...
