Rock Found in AC Condenser

After finding a good size rock embedded between the fins of my AC Condenser, decided to install galvanized screen to protect the coils. Used screen from LOWES and UV resistant tie wraps. $15 fix to avoid high cost of replacing a AC coil!

Well done Brewster. It's kinda hard to tell from the pic but, hopefully the mesh is large enough as not to restrict airflow into the radiator and condenser creating engine overheat or inefficient ac.

Drivmsafe, 1/4" mesh should let plenty of air flow while protecting the coil I hope.

Looks fine, just keep a eye on bugs building up.

Thumbs up

Everyone thanks for the replies, Vinceu, I figure to just open up the doors and spray with garden hose from inside out occasionally! Easier then cleaning the coil!

Looks good. Is that nylon mesh or wire? I saw an older post that used small square galvanized wire.

1/4" galavnized screen, anything smaller I think would block air flow.

Brewster. Any chance you could post a pic of the tie straps you used? Are they plastic ties?

Excellent idea!
My Honda Element AC condenser was VERY exposed to road debris. Concerned me to the point I went to the Element Owners Forum and did some research and found the same basic remedy. Took a section of metal mesh gutter guard, painted it black, slid it in place and secured with black zip ties. Catches the bugs, etc. Have found a couple of places where it was deformed from stopping rocks, etc. In 8 years I have only replaced one zip tie. Best few $$'s spent.

Thanks Brewster. I thought those were what you were referring to. Any chance you could post a pic of how you used them from inside the grille? I don't mean to be a pain. I'm not the best fabricator and I'm just trying to get ideas. I've had the screening (using the same screening they use to protect sliding screen doors from dogs), just haven't come up with a good method to install. I really like the tie strap idea.
Thank again!

Here's a close pic of the tie wraps through the fibreglass grill. Drilled the holes from the inside out. Hope this helps, it was real easy!

Always nice to see more FR3 owners in Calif. seems the majority of FR3 owners are in the Midwest area. We are in Upland. Spent many a summer up in the Arrowhead area (Twin Peaks).

A thousand uses for wire mesh. Nice job! I did the same thing on my Corvette's grill. Since those cars are 'bottom feeders', they act like a vacuum cleaner going down the road. One piece of gutter guard and two zip ties worked like a charm. I also used gutter guards on the back side of my fivers refrigerator outdoor vent access panel. Mice last winter scurried up the side of the unit under the cover and found a home in the insulation behind the panel. That should keep the furry lil' buggers out this time.

did mine a little different, didn't want to drill the grill, so I made a frame, a little more costly
