RV keyless door lock

I just tried installing an RVlock Keyless Class C/A entry handle on my FR3 30DS. The two large latch bolts on the new handle are too short and the old bolts have a different thread. Has anyone else tried to install this handle, and how did they resolve the bolt problem.

What length and thread size do you need? Have you tried a hardware store? RV doors can vary by only a small amount on thickness, did you call RV Lock and ask about your bolts? Youroo!!

The bolts I am talking about are not just regular bolts, they are the two large bolts that protrude from the lock and go into the latch plate on the left side of the door. Nothing you would find at a hardware store.

Hope you have better luck than I did. Does your handle have 2 large bolts that go into the latch on the left side when closed? Those bolts when screwed all the way in as they should be, are too short, and will not allow the door to close.

RV lock

Motorhome is back in storage, so I only have pics of the new lock. The 2 bolts that are too short are below the deadbolt and above and below the latch.

I had the same problem with mine. Company told me to get an Allen wrench and back them out a little ways. I did so but I also applied some Loctite to them when I put them back in. Has worked like a charm ever since.

Thanks I was concerned about using Loctite semi-permanent might back out and permanent would be a problem as things shift and wear on the door. Did you use semi perm Loctite?

He's talking about the two mushroom type male bolt heads that extend about 1/2 inch from the door, and mate with the female slots in the strike plate on the door jamb when it's closed.

I too have an RV lock that I haven't installed (on my Forester MBS 2401W.) I just checked mine and found that the bolt heads are the same diameter, but a little bit thinner. I doubt if that will be an issue since how much they protrude is adjustable by screwing them in or out.

If RV Lock can't help, McMaster-Carr is an excellent source for just about any bolt you can imagine (and millions of other industrial things too). Also try Fastenall.

Note: I attached 4 photos but this is my first time and I can't tell if their all there or just one. If only one appears, could someone please tell me how to attach several?

Thanks for all your ideas. I will try the Loctite method, sounds like the best solution.

I use the blue stuff for now - monitoring...will go up a level if it shows signs of not holding...it has been a couple of months so far.

i want to say this is a great post! i will be installing on a 2018 29DS in a few weeks after we take delivery. this would have driven me crazy. i think i will get some red loc-tite. these are bolts that probably should never move again.

Use BLUE locktite! Same material gunsmiths use to keep oru rifle scopes tight on a rifle while in heavy recoil. It will prevent loosening but can still be taken off.

If you use the RED, it will require 300 degrees F to free up. NOT good on your door!

Don't just look at the tube color, look at the color of the Locktite itself when it comes out of the tube. My blue Locktite is in a Red tube and my red Locktite in a blue tube, Go Figure!
