Satellites - portable vs roof mounted. Which do you use and why?

We want to get a satellite for our FR3 and can't decide between portable and roof mounted permanent. Had roof mounted on our last motor home but tress sometimes blocked satellite and had to move forward or backward to try to find a signal etc. would like to which version the rest of you use and if you are happy with your choice. Thanks

I use a Dish network Tailgater. One more thing to drag out and setup, although it doesn't take long. I'm thinking about a permanent roof mount and carrying the Tailgater along for those areas where the roof mount doesn't work. Best of both worlds.

Having had 2 motorhomes before, we always opted for the portable. I like my trees / shade, and they would've got in the way of getting a signal. I've run as much as 60-70' of coax before with the portables, so 1 vote for portable. Of course, sounds like GOTTOYS has got it covered either way. That's an option.

Only reason I could ever think of having one on the roof, would be for in motion tv watching, by those in the back, if not obstructed by a slide wall. We never had TV in a vehicle growing up, so my kids don't either. Just us.

Has anyone tried the cube? I've checked them out, and it appears thy were first and mainly made for truckers, but I think it would be so perfect for the RV.

never had a portable but that sounds good to me. Like some other viewers stated, many times trees in the way and I had to switch spots. With a portable, I could place line of site.
