Shower Low Pressure

Went dry camping last weekend and our 30DS shower flow was only a dribble. I thought it was going to be clogged with that grey stuff that has clogged our sinks and toilet before. But, found the problem to be a black washer above the shower controls and before the shower hose. There is also a white plastic flow control in there. Looks like the tip part of the black washer wasn't originally removed and I cut it out. I also kept the flow control out when I put the hose back on. Now we have great flow again. We'll use the on/off control on the shower head handle to monitor how much water we use when showering. I'm thinking I should install a screen above the controls to catch any of that grey matter before it goes into the shower head and clogs it.
