Shower skylight leaking

Anyone else had this issue? After winterizing, I went out to exercise the genset and found the bathroom light full of water. Pulled the interior side of the skylight off and found multiple cracks in the light as well as one large entry point where it looks like the Dicor has pulled back from the edge of the skylight.

Ive tried to bandaid with eternabond for the moment, but Im guessing that this is going to need replacement ASAP. Has anyone sourced one of these online?

If you posted what model Rv your dealing with, I'm sure you could get a better response! I just replaced mine on my SS 2300 and it was a PITA because the seam where the back wall and the roof meet - overlaps the rear edge of the skylight. Plus the stupid hurricane headed this way as soon as I scrapped all the dicor off to begin the job...

cucamelsmd15,

Perhaps PhilG is referring to the FR3 model designation (e.g.; 25DS, 28DS, 29DS, 30DS, 32DS) of your MH. It is possible that different skylights may be used within the FR3 line and even within the same model designation (based on year).

Take microwaves for instance. The 2017 FR3 30DS microwave is different from the 2016 FR3 30DS and earlier microwaves.

Just a thought...

If you need a skylight, just google up "rv skykights".
Dozens of sites will come up. Standard, custom, odd shaped...there all there.

Touche. I was admittedly being a smart...

Its a 30DS, 2014 model with the gray front cap.

I THINK based on my google-fu that this is more or less a standard part and I just need to cough up the $120 for one.

Here's my recommendation based on past experience with this company. Suggest you go with Lexan for your replacement...it does scratch a little easier, but is FAR less likely to crack.

RV Skylights, Square, Rectangular & Round.

Since ours is an octagon shape, we could always go with a rectangle from @GreenIMP's link above. You would never know from the inside, since the interior shroud is the same. I need to look into this as well since I've only done a temp silicon fix last summer around the edges. Crazy the clear ones only have a 2 year UV warranty. The hell with clear, I'll take the white, 5 year warranty ones...:-)

We have the 30DS 2014. Our skylight has cracks coming from the screw holes. I ordered a lexan skylight and will be replacing it soon. I also put a temp repair which is working so far.

Same symptoms- a leak into my shower from one of the screw heads. I ordered from GreenImp's link and love my new skylight.

Our 2014 30DS had the same problem with the shower skylight. Those nimrod installers at FR like to put too much torque on the screws when installing at the factory. Sooner or later, with all the coach movement, they're gonna start cracking. Not sure where my repair guy bought the new skylight from but, it's a bit stronger than the original. Biggest problem was the odd shape. So far, all is well.

I have a 2015 30DS FR3. Could someone who has replaced their skylight post what the dimensions were or size of their replacement?

We just ordered a new Lexan skylight a couple weeks ago from EZTops Worldwide and waiting for it to arrive. I ordered a 21"x29" 4" dome with overall dimensions being 23"x31". I believe the cutout in the roof was ~20"x25". I'll let you know how it turns out once I get mine installed.

KansasFR3, thanks. I would be interested to know. Mine is currently held together with Gorilla tape.

We have one on order from EZTops as well. Already have tubes of SB140 caulking.

Looks like it should fit just fine. Original one might have been a little longer, but I plan on using eternabond tape to cover the edges anyways. It did take a little longer than I expected with the shipping, but I guess all is well. Hopefully will install it this weekend given we have a break in the rain.

Installation went pretty good. Hardest part it getting it cleaned up to install the new skylight. The previous forward/aft row of fasteners were about 1" away from where the new skylight mounts, but using some eternabond tape took care of that issue.

If it was leaking (sure it was in as much as that is what the thread is about), I'd take a close look at how much under roof damage there is. Water and substrate don't get along well....

Hi KansasFR3,

Looks good. Did you use any Dicor as well? I noticed on the tubes I have it states: "Not suitable for all TPO roofs".

Now that we are home from our 4300 mile trip, I need to order a skylight as well. Just wondering what the best adhesive to use.

I just used the buytal tape with the eternabond tape, then followed up with Dicor Ultra around the edges for extra insurance. I have used the original Dicor that your referencing in previous jobs and it'll cause the roof material to have waves/dimples in the material due to some sort of chemical reaction. Once it gasses off, its fine. This time, I used this Dicor Ultra, which requires an expensive primer to be painted on first. I'll climb up there some time this week and take a look to see how it did.
