It's a flawed design. Too much stress on the pivot of that bolt. I would demand better steps. That bolt could be of an inferior grade. They should be recalled, before someone is really injured.

Rust is not the problem. Mine was brand new not even 14 days old. When it broke.

I'm still limping. I took a pretty good fall from the third step when it broke. Turns out old men don't land as well as they use to.

I've been reading these post with great interest and am now curious. Mandaholic, the pic you posted, what brand steps do you have. My 30DS Has Kwikee 3 step. Yours look different.
Thanks

Mine is an LCI three step. From what I'm hearing the Kwikee is better.

Thanks Mandoholic. The concern I have with the Kwikee is that when stepping onto the bottom step it seems to sag quite a bit giving worry that it will cause excessive wear on the overall stability. I'd much rather have a 2 step. Time will tell.....

Just heard from my local dealer's service department and they are going to get the steps locally, install them tomorrow and fight the battle with FR later. They found a Kwikee Model 25 which is a heavier duty 2 step. Seems to me that the 3 step put way too much torque on the coach. Time will tell.....I hope.

Dealer called today and said FR approved the Kwikee 2 step and will install it tomorrow, right after lunch. Only took three days and really seemed like they cared that it got done so we can go to a Bluegrass Festival on Friday. It's a long jump out of that door for an old man.

We use these:
All 4 feet are adjustable, but it's not nearly the height that Mandoholic needs based on his most recent picture post.

Done!
I have to hand it to the folks at Funtime RV in Tualatin Oregon. Just three and a half days since I contacted them they got it approved by FR and done. I got the Kwikee Series 32 Double step. Feels solid as a rock. I didn't like the Lippert 3 Step the first time I stepped on them. All loaded up and we are headed for Shelton, Washington to pick a little Bluegrass.

I think you may want to hang onto those collapsable steps in the picture. I leveled up at a site tonight and we had to add a 4th step because the front tires were off the ground and our 3rd step was about 14 inches off the ground. But we live in the South, you may not have that problem where you are. Happy Camping.

I have replaced, rebuilt, replaced and rebuilt my Lippert steps. There are 3 steps on mine and the bolts just keep on shearing. I think because here is such a long cantilever that the bolts can't take the stress and break. I'm afraid someone is going to get hurt
