Lol we had a new jeep.. Awesome to tow but if you like a nice riding vehicle stay away from a jeep they are horrible on the highway rattling and banging and not at all aerodynamic... There are tons of other vehicles

Toad

I tow the Soul four down.

The Soul is a manual transmission.

No power on and no mileage accumulates.

I'm considering a Blue Ox system to flat tow a 2 door Wrangler with my 30DS. For those here towing Wranglers, have you installed a braking system? Here in TX the max tow weight is 4,500lbs before it is legally required, but wondering if I should be more concerned with safety than this legal limit? Jeep is approx 4,000lbs.

Is the baseplate an easy DIY install, or requires drilling etc, and best left to a professional? Lastly, does the odometer on the Jeep run while being towed?

Thanks!

Think safety when towing your toad. I went with the SMI Duo Stay in Play system on my 2001 Wrangler. If your mechanically inclined, it's an easy install. When I sold the Jeep the new owner was very happy it was completely tow ready.

As for the Blue Ox base plate. I don't know what year your Wrangler is but, on my 01, I just needed to drill 2 holes on the passenger side frame. The drivers side bolted to the steering box holes. It was a very easy DYI install.

On my '01, the odometer did not increase mileage.

What year wrangler do you plan to tow with your 30DS.? From 2010 on, once you place the Wranglers transfer case in neutral, the computer will automatically unlock your steering/wheel. So there is no need to have your key in the ignition and turned on.
I've flat towed every jeep there is/was from the CJ-5 and 7 to the YJ, TJ and Jk. Your 30DS will not even know it's back there. Also, when flat towing you can not back up W/O 1st unhooking the Jeep. The steering will max out to the right or left if you try to back up so keep that in your mind as you pull in for gas and stop in tight areas.

Keep in mind that most states require a supplemental braking system on towed vehicles.
