Not quite true. The 5R110 thats supplied in the F53 is the same as whats in the E-series and the F-550 - F-750 medium duty applications prior to being phased out in favor of the 6R140 six speed transmission in the latter.
That said, Mark Kovalsky who developed the programming still in use on the 5R110 is on record as saying that it matters not if you use it. Well, other than the benefits listed previously. It wasnt an option on the medium duty applications, although the maps were there to where it could have been used with some wiring and whatnot. The transmission/V10 combination was available in the Class 6/7 trucks with GVWR and GCWRs that were double what a fully loaded FR3 and 5000lb toad weigh.
In short, I think the 5R110 will take whatever we dish out, with or without the Tow/Haul.
