First step is to confirm the FR3 can tow 5000 lbs and stay within the GCWR.
Second, check Roadmaster, Blueox and Demco for toad adapter plates and the bar you want for a lengthy time of use. If you change Toads make sure the base plates will be available to match that bar.

If you know the difference, in height, from your FR3 receiver and the baseplate hookup, this will give you an idea of how much drop you need. If it's, say, 6", a 4" drop would be ok. I've been told, and it'll show on your hook-up directions that a little angle is ok.

I have switched to a Blue ox alpha tow bar and base plate. They make a base plate designed for my Fiat 500 toad. I went to an installer who happened to be isnstalling a blue ox base plate on another customer's Fiat 500. He was a dealer for both Roadmaster and Blue Ox. After much discussion and a saving of $400.00 I chose Blue Ox. Easy on/off connections liked the over package.

The FR3 has room for the 5000lbs and then some (18000 vs 23000 GVWR/GCWR).

Just checkin, 4700# seems large for any toad, behind a 18000# motorhome it's an anchor! Forget the ratings, think practical. I've rigged 7 different toads over the years, never had the tail wag the tow.

I tow a race trailer thats every bit of 5000lb back there, and I can hardly tell its back there.

Then again, my other weekend ride looks something like this.



When youre rolling 35,000 pounds down the road in the trailer, yeah, then we can talk about it being an anchor.

I'm towing a 2014 Jeep Trail Hawk with no issues, if it weren't for the camera I'd never it was behind me. Demco base plate (sticks out in front not hidden like I was told) Demco tow bar and Stay-N-Play break system.

I use Blue Ox. Good stuff and the Alpha tow bar works great. You can get one for about $550 at AdventureRV.net. 6500lb rating and is super simple. I also like the Blue Ox baseplate. Everything is hidden and blends in well when not towing.

We towed a Honda CRV with Blue Ox Anventa towbar. Don't feel a thing. Over 13,000 miles.
