2012 Hyundai Veloster, six speed manual. I flat tow it with a Blue Ox setup. The car is only 2,500lbs and I can barely notice it back there.

A good place to start is: Downloadable Dinghy Guides | MotorHome Magazine

There are several considerations for towing a vehicle behind a motorhome. The vehicle must be within the weight limit the motorhome is able to tow. So the first thing to do is check the motorhome owner's manual.

Next, the towed vehicle must be designed by the manufacturer to be capable of being towed with all four wheels on the ground. Again, check the owner's manual for the vehicle you want to tow. There should be a section listed as "recreational towing" or a similar name. DO NOT believe what the car dealer tells you! See it in writing in the manual.

Most vehicles that can be towed with the wheels down fall into three general categories: 1. They are 4 wheel drive and have a transfer case that can be put in neutral to disconnect the transmission (for example, my Jeep Wrangler). 2. They use an automatic transmission design that has the fluid pump on the driveshaft end rather than the engine end (some older Hondas and Saturns). 3. They have a manual transmission (like my previous Toyota Yaris). There can be other reasons, but these are the most common.

Some vehicles can be modified for flat towing by adding an automatic transmission fluid pump, or a driveshaft disconnect, etc. This might be worth doing if you already have an otherwise suitable vehicle, or really like a certain model.

You will also need to install a baseplate for the tow bar, tail light wiring, and a braking system.

Start with the Dinghy Guide, and do your homework before spending any money.

I've heard they stopped being flat towing with the 2014 models. Living the RV Dream podcasters bought a 2014 just for this reason.

Iplayjems. We towed a 2001 Wrangler without any problems at all. Couldn't even tell it was back there. Same now with the CRV.

Iplayjems:
I agree that towing a Jeep Wrangler most of the time makes little to no difference when driving the motorhome. I do however perceive a slight decrease in performance when towing it up a mountain pass. It's still not a problem though, especially considering that the Jeep weighs 4000 pounds and has the aerodynamics of a brick.

The Toyota Yaris was a different story. It weighed 2200 pounds and was shaped like a jelly bean. I was constantly checking the rear view monitor to make sure I had not misplaced it!

LoL!! No for me it's got to be a Jeep!! The package looks great and all my life it has always been pleasing to my eye to see a motorhome towing a Jeep. I've been hooked on Jeeps all my life going back to... I'm going to say 7yrs old. My great uncle Bob had a flat fender back then he towed behind his old Winnebago. I remember one winter in northern Minnesota being at grandma and grandpas during Christmas, looking out the kitchen window during a snow storm seeing to little light coming down grandpas 1 mile long driveway. Everyone was there, big family. It was my uncle Bob and aunt Rita. Well sure enough my uncle had forgot his bottle of old crow, and they lived about 15miles from grandpas place so uncle Bob jumped back in his rubbers and was going out the door to jump in the old flat fender to run home. Just as he started out the door he stopped and asked me if I wanted to ride along. I did!! It was the coolest thing ever! 2 feet of fresh snow and still coming down, levers coming out of every where in that old Jeep and it just chugged thru the snow as though it was a Sunday drive. I even got to operate my own windshield wiper!! Yes l was hooked! I myself have been driving Jeeps for over 37yrs. And I tow them with my motorhome just like my great uncle Bob used to.

We flat tow a 2014 Fiat 500L with a manual transmission, using a Blue Ox system. It's fairly light and good on gas.

2014 FR3 30DS we tow a 2014 CRV with a Demco towbar and US Gear braking systems. The braking system comes with a charge line for the battery. 10,000 tow kilometres and counting.

I will be toad'ing a 2014 Chevy Volt as soon as I get a tow dolly. Very low clearance so I have to be careful what dolly I purchase.
