Broken door strut

The wind caught the entry door on the Legacy and busted the strut at the bottom. Anyone else have this happen and if so, did you order an aftermarket replacement or get it through FR?

God, don't get it from FR, will cost you a fortune. Most RV stores have them, very common item and just snap on. They make the ends so they will fail if the door is caught in the wind rather than do $500 damage to the hinges. Most places get about $16 ish for them. I carry a couple spares just for that reason.

I can't remember the extended length, but I think it is 19". They come in 1" increments. They come in various "strengths" since these struts are used for everything from soup to nuts, they are not specific to any particular use, totally generic. Make sure what you get is rated at 10 pounds of force, even 20 will work OK, but no more than that, will stress the hinges too much. Usually the part number has the force embedded in it somewhere so you can see the force rating.

Hope that helps

Rick
