New Truma Water Heater

Today I replaced the Girard Gen 2 water heater with a Truma water heater. No more hot and cold cycles. The Truma Service Center in Lakeland Fl is currently offering free installation. They will also travel to your location for a small fee (well worth it IMO) if you are within a few hours drive. Took about three hours.Click image for larger version

Our Girard instant water heater actually has worked fine. Sometimes I get the impression that they all work badly.

Our Girard Gen 1 worked terribly for the first year. After replacing a few parts and learning the quirks, it’s turned out ok.
I would NOT do it again though. With a limited number of travel/camping days, the last thing I want to have to worry about is not having hot water.
It is a system that should be dead-simple/reliable. If we hadn’t gotten it resolved, we would have just thrown in a 10-Gal 3-way, but wouldn’t have ever bought another FR product again.
I can deal with a lot of issues, but the lack of a hot shower really starts my day off wrong...
Knock on wood, we’ve had 10-15 trips since with no problems since

So far my only complaint with the Truma is it takes a long time to get hot water. Which is s big problem because your wasting water and filling the gray for no reason.

I just finished my first trip after replacing my Atwood on-demand OD50 with the Truma AquaGo Comfort (installed by the folks in Lakeland). I couldn't believe how QUICKLY the water got hot. I think the longest I waited was maybe 10 seconds.

Awesome! Congrats! It’s so satisfying after a bad hot-water experience!

I wonder if it takes longer because ours has the manifold system? Its pretty annoying how long it take to get hot water. Ill call Truma to see what they think.

Are you all still happy with the Truma? We are thinking of making the switch. Anything we should be aware of? Thanks!

Used our Truma daily for over 2 months straight with no issues. Still love it.

Do you feel it takes a “while” to get hot water to the sinks and shower?

I had the same issue on my first trip. I called the David, our Truma installer from Lakeland, FL. He repeated to me the instructions he gave me the first time he installed the unit. I simply got the "sequence" confused. Turn off the truma switch installed inside and then the RV's water heater. When turning on, 1) hook up the water to the coach, 2) run water in your coach to get the air pockets out, 3) turn on the truma switch on inside the unit, 4) turn on the unit's water heater switch, and 5) turn all of your water handles on hot and run the water. Once I follow this sequence, I normally get hot water in 15 seconds or less.

Yes and actually super simple. The only "extra" step in normal hooking up or disconnecting the RV is the turning on or off if the Truma hot water heater unit inside switch. Just make sure you turn the Truma switch on before you turn on the RV's water heater switch AND turn both the switches off for the Truma and RV water heater when disconnecting.

Heading back home today. Very happy with the Truma. It didn’t skip a beat!
Had hot water all time. Even after 3 showers including one teenage girl!
Fabulous improvement!

Just had our first trip with the new Truma. Worked like a charm and we had great consistent showers. I appreciate the info you all shared.

Nice. Keep us updated on how it works as time goes on. We are still very pleased with our Girard Gen. 2 but always looking for input on others in case that situation changes.

Our Girard gen 2 has always been good. How many of you all had replaced a gen 2?
