Slit in bottom of LR slide open to elements?

Hey gang,
So I posted this in the "Legacy evaluation so far" thread but also posting here to perhaps be visible to more folks -

So - we looked a bunch of Legacy coaches today and I'm curious about something. At one point my DW, when looking at the area underneath the sink, said "wow you can see a lot of daylight under there". It looked to be a slit in the bottom of the slide w/ two rubber flaps - but there was still a lot of open space to the outside. With all the plumbing under there, I would think that area would be extremely susceptible to freezing in cold temps with that open slit exposed.

Anyone else notice this? Surely there must be a way to make that more weather tight - besides open access for vermin, that area under the sink would get *extremely* cold.

Remedies? Thoughts?

The purpose of the slit is the slide moves a rounds quite a bit of plumbing and electrical lines coming up through floor inside of first cabinet under sink.

I haven't had any issues with it, i also haven't come up with a reasonable fix for it either. It seems that with furnace on the basement compartments are kept warm. I'm not sure freezing is an issue if your using heat but the varmint and insect issue was more of our concern.

I would like to seal it up but not sure how it can be done given the slide moves around all those hoses and wires in the front corner of that cabinet.

Overall very happy with the coach. Yes there are little things that make you scratch your head but for the most part very well built.

Heard from the factory about the slit. Here is what he had to say:
" the “slit” under the slide out that you sent me a picture of…there really is no way to seal it up 100%. It needs to be left somewhat open since there are parts that need room to move when the slide out or moved in or out. You might be able to find something that will help, but you need to make sure it is thin enough that it won’t obstruct the movement of the slide room"

Translation to me: duct tape

I'm gonna use some to block the opening and work with it to ensure I can seal it somewhat

Have say sadly this could be a deal breaker for me. As we do a fair amount of travel in cold weather months, I can't see the area under the sink being that exposed to the cold. I can't fathom that an engineer thought that was a good idea.

I hear you. I'm going epoxy some Velcro on to the flaps and when I open it, i can seal it.

After talking again to the factory rep again, apparently all models are done with the slit. You might want to check. At least that is what he informed me of so it appears that the Legacy is not the only model.

We had them redo the rubber because the pipe had to be replaced from sink as it folded up when slide came in and left a kink so it wouldn't drain correctly. Was replaced with a softer pipe that could move correctly up and down with sliding in and out
Also had motors replaced on both slides as slides were not put in correctly at factor. VERY POOR CRAFTMAN SHIP. No quality control
Our boxes leak when going thru rain. Have had them back in three times so far for same problem. Mechanics are great but very poor design and material
