Water Filter and Softener

I just purchased an On the Go portable water softener and am thinking I should add a water filter before the softener. Anybody done this? I'm wondering if this would significantly affect the water pressure in the RV, especially if I continue to use the Forest River filter.

If you add a water filter before the softer and also have the installed filter it would seem to me you will restrict flow to your rig. I removed the installed filter from FR and now have it outside with a portable mount to the bumper so that I filter all water (filling FW tank or on city water) coming into the rig.

A filter before a softener can be a good thing and a bad thing.
It might help prolong the usefulness of the softener media but any filter (before or after) can add a certain amount of restriction to the plumbing (even when maintained regularly) just from the internal design of how the water has to flow around in there.
