1961 Shasta Airflyte Reissued in 2015 - Let's talk "Glamping"

Below are a few definitions from my friends about 'Glamping' and what it means to them:

We would love to see your glamped out 2015 Shasta Airflyte! Please post your pictures here

Filone -Glamping to me is ... Making your Shasta pretty ... your own touch...comfy & warm! Whatever makes you happy when you're there.

Hills S. - when you use glue to start a campfire lol.

Sarah - A hot shower, good food, coffee in the morning. Our tent camping has also consisted of an outdoor floor mat and air mattress. If we were to continue tent camping I also like the idea of a little side table! However, in our Shasta it will always feel like we're glamping. Can't wait to decorate her!

Kate A. -To me "glamping" is camping with an emphasis on aesthetics and creature comforts, an inclusion of items beyond the essential--and yes, I think there's a feminine connotation to the word.

Mig -Glamping is glamor camping. It means you can have a chandelier instead of a flashlight. You can have a down comforter instead of a sleeping bag. You can have freshly baked biscuits in your oven and you can turn on a heater in your quaint small trailer. It means you can have all the feminine stuff that a woman requires, the romance, the pretty dishes and elegant silverware, It means you do not have to compromise any of your fine linens. It means you can add a little bit of glamor without anybody thinking you are too girly or foo foo-ey. It means we get to be our self and we can decorate however we choose in any color or any style. We decide because we have beautiful minds and we are powerful individuals being empowered by one another. Anything goes and we are accepted. That is what it means to me!

Glamping is not a feminine concept alone, by any means. Lots of us dudes have been doing it for a while now...

If "glamping" means I don't want to sleep on the ground in a sleeping bag anymore, then yes, I'm a glamper. Guilty. Lock me up. In my glamper. With the satellite dish deployed.

Camping to me is tent or Trailer camping.
RVing to me is done in a Diesel Pusher Class A motorhome.
Glamping is in a whole other way to camp, it's where you have such a unique camper (Shasta Airflyte) that people are drawn to it like Flies to a BBQ, and you give them a memory that will live with them forever. When you go Glamping put on your social butterfly pants and enjoy the fellowship.

I agree. If this is glamping then sentence me to my 40' fiver with all four slides out, fireplace turned on and movie playing while the family snuggles inside on a cold rainy day.

"Enchantment; magic"

I looked up the dictionary definition of "glamour," from where "glamping" is, in part, derived and I was struck by the archaic definition: enchantment; magic. The first time I think I encountered "glamping" was the book, Sisters on the Fly: Caravans, Campfires, and Tales from the Road.

Each photo showed a rather "enchanted" trailer, different themes and styles, but all magical in the transformation of the space from ordinary to extraordinary. They weren't all to my personal taste, but they all had the power to transport one to some other time/space. The use of vintage items in much retro trailer decor celebrates an imagined past, the days when life was easier, and gentler (the fog of nostalgia). I love my new Shasta Re-Issue in its brand-spanking newness (no one's ever peed in the toilet!), but I look forward to layering it with objects from the past, incorporating other people's histories into my own story.

This summer in a Grand Junction, CO thrift store, I found a set of Texasware Melmac dishes in sage green. In the box was the paperwork from 1956 when it was ordered from the distributor by a ranger in West Yellowstone. It's magic to me to be able to hold and use items that are part of what can be understood as "invisible history." The dishes never served presidents or celebrities, they don't commemorate a historic event, and yet, they were an essential part of someone's forgotten past. I feel privileged to have them in my new Shasta, Buttercup--they were the first items in.
