1971 Cox Fold Out

We saw this 1971 Cox Fold Out last week at Oregon Inlet Campground on the outer banks of North Carolina.
The camper has been in the family since purchased new in 1971. Restored and new canvas. Still making great camping memories after 46 years.

Pretty cool seeing one of those old tent campers. My father in-law and brother in-law both had Sears tent campers in the early 70’s.

Those are pretty cool little campers! It is good to see people taking care of old-timers like those!

Memories

We had I believe a 1971 Cox camper. First major purchase after we were married. $100 used and about 3 or 4 years later sold it for $200. To this day we have never made as much money on a RV.....
They were made in Grifton NC. Ah, simple fun!!

Cox started making a great galvanized boat trailer. Still see them on the road today. Their tent trailer was the best. My Dad bought one in early 70's. A Commander that looked very similar to ops pic. Lots of great trips for us as kids including one to Outer Banks. Thanks so much for posting.

Ps: If anybody interested about history of Cox check out popupcamperhistory.com. Including their sad demise from a crooked financier.

Regards,
MM

Cool! My family had a '74 Cox camper and it stayed in the family (my husband and I) until we upgraded in 2000.

Pic of a Cox camper I saw last weekend at Pettipone Campground in LaCrosse, Wi. The couple said it was a '78. Looked identical to the one we had when I was a kid, except our bed was a lighter yellow color.
