Camping trip

Well we took our 16' from ohio to nashville tn.Stayed at the koa it is a really nice park.Found out that the air conditioner isnt enough at 90 +.Had a great time at nashville. Then we headed to destin fl.Stayed at camp gulf fell n love with the destin area the beaches and water are unreal. The park was great it is on the beach.Couldnt get a beach front site because we took our pups. But we was a couple of rows back and the views were great. The little shasta was the talk of the park.Everyone that passed stopped and talked about it.Didnt have any issues other than the ac it just wouldnt cool it in the heat of the day at night it would freeze you out.So going to update to a larger ac unit.Going to make some braces for the canopy to help hold it up in case of rain got some ideals got to set it up and do some measuring.I think it is a great weekend camper we were gone for 10 days wasnt bad but not llike being in our 40' endeavor.Cant wait for the next trip in the shasta.

Tint the windows so it doesn't act like a greenhouse during the day. Buy an air deflector to blow the a/c air up in order to circulate the hot air down to the a/c unit. Have you fixed the problem these things have with getting the exhausted air out the exterior vent?

Being they are not well insulated and small ac units it's hard to cool here in the south during summer months. Probably work ok up north. Later RJD

maybe a cheaper fix is to paint [slop] that white insulating roof paint on that is used on mobile homes...I did that to a steel horse trailer....it made all the difference.

Yes I made a vent to get the hot air out of the camper.Had a couple of fans moving the air around also removed the cover from the front of the ac and installed the one from the ac unit that helped some but not enough. Going to tint the windows and install a lager ac unit.

Original A/C in the Shasta Airflyte 1961 re-issue is 5000 BTUs. Some people upgrade to 8000 BTUs. The enhanced venting and additional fans are enough for some people.

Make sure the little black fan is wired into the electrical system mine was not and it didn't have the baffle vent thing and the AC ACTED LIKE A HEATER instead of an AC!!! Luckly I didn't take my cat camping he would have died from the heat when we went to a near by at atraction! He handles on the drawers and cabinets was so hot I had to use my tee-shirt to open them and the cabinet above the av got so hot it melted our bag of marshmallows
