2018 Grey Wolf 29dsfb: Hardwiring EMS location / Water Heater Bypass Valve location?

Hello,

We’re on our first trip in our new trailer and we have a PI EMS to hardwire into the trailer, but we’re wondering where is the best place for that. Has anyone else with a 29dsfb found a good spot?

Also, we haven’t been able to get anything but lukewarm water and we’re wondering if cold water is somehow bleeding into the hot water, but we haven’t been able to find where the hot water heater bypass valve is. Can anyone enlighten me? Or is there another reason that the water might not be heating up? Something is happening because the water is warmer from the hot tap than the cold, but it’s definitely not warm enough to shower in...

Thanks very much.

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. It sounds like your hot water tank is in bypass mode, find the tank (not the outside part) check the valve positions. Can't help you with the ems.

Unless you have a bypass switch in a wet bay, chances are the bypass is directly behind the tank on the inside of the trailer. Locate the tank from the outside, then go inside and find that same spot. It'll probably be in a cupboard, under a bunk, under a dinette, etc...

Then, look for a way to get into that space, there should be something that is either a false panel, or a door with hinges on both sides, or, in the case of the bunk, maybe the bottom of the bunk lifts out.

Edit: Ok, just looked up pictures of that unit. It looks like the water heater is in the front under a bunk? It also looks like there's a storage cubby on the outside right beside it. So, the bypass is probably accessed by either opening the bunk, or possibly there's a false wall in the storage cubby.

For the EMS, it looks like the Distribution panel is under the fridge, from what I've heard about the hardwired models (ours is a portable model) most people try to put them there.

We have hot water! Thanks for helping us locate the hot water heater - it was on bypass.

For future reference...

For future reference there is one other cause of this problem--getting a mix of hot and cold water when you have turned on only the hot tap.

If you have a handheld shower (interior or exterior) and someone has turned the shower off at the head while leaving both taps on, the shower taps will act as a bypass mixer.
