26DBH-L Hot Water

Hi Everyone,

New to RV'ing here, just purchased a 26DBH-L. This past weekend we took it out for the first time and the question is, when taking a shower the hot water runs out before I have a chance to finish, and I am fairly quick. Is this normal? We were connected to 110V and city water, so water heater should have been running off 110V, but it just runs out quick it seems.

Most likely and simply the cross connection on the water heater service lines is open... should be closed

Thanks Walt. Any idea where I can find that?

Depends on where your WH is located if it is a suburban they cross connection is located either behind or under the water heater. There may be a hand hole under the compartment where the heater is... look under your rig

With my Alpha Wolf I notice that using the water at at lower flow rate coming out of the tub faucet before pulling up the shower head lever gives you a longer shower time. With the water saver washers in the shower head it doesn't take much water pressure for a good flow.

Also, I believe with that model Suburban you can run the electric heater and propane heater at the same time which gives you hotter water and quicker recovery time.

It really comes down to changing you shower habits and getting used to a Navy shower - on to wet, off to soap and on to shower.

Ok, this is an obvious question. Did you turn on the electric switch that is outside in the hot water heater compartment?

I made that mistake the first time out. I didn't remember them telling me that elect water heat was different than flipping the switch inside the rig.

When I'm hooked up to shore power I turn on the switch outside at the bottom left of the water heater but only after I've purged all the hot and cold facuets of air. If you flip the switch outside before the water heater is filled with water you will burn out the element.

We just use the electric heater only for dishes and such. When it's time for showers I go to the control panel inside and turn on the propane water heater. Give it about 10 minutes and then shower. Once every one is done I turn off the water heater at the control panel and it will continue to heat on electric.
