Cherokee 274DBH & Wolf 26DBH Owners - Who tows with a half ton?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the FR forums, and we are looking to buy a 274 or 26 DBH. For minor reasons, we prefer the 274 DBH, which is slightly heavier. I already posted a more detailed question in the towing forum, but thought it might be helpful to take a poll on the Cherokee sub-forum, since you're the ones who would know best:

How many of you own the Cherokee 274 DBH or Grey Wolf 26 DBH, and tow it with a half-ton pickup truck? And those of you who do, can you tell me a bit about your tow vehicle and experience (good or bad)?

Thanks!

Great trailer. I tow with a 2011 F150 with the EcoBoost. Tows like a dream. Had a titan with 5.6 v8 and the F150 is much better. Just get the right wd setup and pack evenly.

Had a 2010 chevy 1500 with the 5.3 and it towed fine. Got around 9mpg.

Should be good. Expect a mile or 2 less. Do you have the max tow on it?

I had a 2015 26dbh towed by a 2011 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the best tow package. 10050 lb tow rating 1410 payload from sticker. The wdh was a blue ox swaypro. No issues at all. My towing I would consider fairly flat as I live in southern Ontario. But never an issue with power or braking. Seems people love to pull in front of people pulling trailers and jam the brakes on. So I have had an emergency stoping situation every year I have towed.

Thanks for the info. Thumper. We have the Tundra tow package and tow/haul button, which I believe holds the gears longer and quickens throttle response.

Do you know the payload capacity of your Ford? That's where I worry about being close or over, though other numbers will be fine.

Either way. I have seen them towed with a jeep....bad idea! You should be fine even if you have some hills to deal with.

I will say this...I get the people pull in front of you, I get it all the time. I would adjust the trailer brakes as mine needed adjustment from the factory.

We plan to buy an Equalizer and already have a P3 brake controller. The latter was only used with a pop up, so I suspect we'd have to learn more about using its features on a TT.

I used the Equalizer e4 or what ever the 4 point system is, still do on the 2500. I also used the P3 on it and it went well.

Would suggest putting it on the large trailer setting though.

I can't remember the settings but I do remember putting it on the largest one for my 29 foot golf stream. I now have the integrated brake controller which works awesome

Thanks all. As a reminder to everyone and myself, I do have a more detailed towing question post in the towing forum, so we should probably keep this thread to just the "poll" of who has a half-ton and their general experience in towing a Cherokee/Wolf with it. I don't mean to post redundant threads.

I tow it with a Ram 1500 Outdoorsman with a max Payload of 1,417 lbs and Max tow rating of 10,050 lbs. I do have the 3.92 rear end which helps significantly in my TV's ability to tow anywhere I want to go. I also have the 10k Equal-i-zer Weight distribution/anti-sway setup. I towed it for a year as stock with no issues, but my Ram sags terribly with as little as 500 lbs in the box because of the coil suspension, so I added an air lift 1000 to it to help me level it off
