Cherokee 274dbh hot water heater switch

I can't remember from last year to this year, when running my water heater on electric does the switch on the water heater outside need to be in the on or off position? Thanks

On is down on the outside switch which turns on the electric. I normally run the hot on the outside shower after connecting to city water to burp any air out of the heater.

We keep this in the FAQ section for the Suburban water heater

I've been leaving the outside switch on and using the breaker to turn on and off ... remember to fill the tank before turning on
