Cherokee 28BH Audio System Question

We just took delivery of our new Cherokee Grey Wolf 28BHKS and love it.
A question regarding the Audio system. We have the Touch Audio VD-400i.
The clock and illumination light on the panel are always on, even in stand by mode. It is dimmer compared to when it is powered up but won't this drain the battery when the trailer is in storage for weeks? There seems to be no way to completely power it down other than disconnecting power which resets the clock, presets, etc.

I don't want drain the battery and just wondering if I am missing something.

Thanks!

that's not the only parasitic battery drain you have. there are a number of power drains on nearly all RVs. some come with battery disconnect switches but most of us have to add our own.
do a search on it, at any RV forum and you'll find hundreds of suggestions.

I agree with the Battery Disconnect. We pick up our Cherokee 28BH in two weeks, and that is the first Mod I am going to do, put in a disconnect switch. There is a good example of it here with pictures.

Why not get a small solar charger to keep the battery charged? you can get them cheap enough this will keep you from needing to disconnect the battery and reset things all the time.

how to set presets??

Our TT arrived yesterday with the touch audio VD400i unit and the manual leaves a bit to be desired.

I want to set the radio station presets but nothing seems to work...the unit itself or on the remote.

I assume I tune to a station, then on the remote press the 'memo' button - i see the main unit display shows 'preset' but it never sets it. I can surf the presets but none are set.

Any advice is most welcome!

You don't need the remote.
Tune to your station and then press the store/clock button on the touch screen. "Memory" indicator diplays. Press the arrow key>> to the next number for the preset in line you wish to use (1-9). Then press the store/clock button again and it is saved. The preset button recalls saved stations.
I put a marine battery disconnect switch on the coach as some have suggested and of course all presets and clock settings are gone when I use the switch to save the battery.

How do you turn off the NOAA alert? Ours keeps tripping - alarm sounds, but no broadcast. With all the severe weather we're having I'm sure it's real alarms, but we're not in the TT and the radio's off - but keeps going off anyway!

According to what I read in the manual; when the unit is "off" you can press "Mode" to toggle it off.

I know that I have tried that, but the NOAA icon still remains on mine.

Found this on another forum:

Actually very easy to turn off the alarm! The user guide is pretty lame, but a couple of minutes with the remote in hand and waalaa, alarm turned off. I had inadvertantly turned it on when trying to set a wake up alarm. Turn the radio on and put on the noaa channel, press the alarm button on the remote and watch the display (there is a little speaker/horn icon). Once to turn on and once to turn off.

I'll give that a try tonight; see if that does anything.

OK, my turn for a question about this audio unit. Has anybody had any success hooking up an iPod to it using the USB port? Or even using the USB port to power a device?

I have tried:
- two different iPhone 3GSs
- 1st gen iPod touch
- 2nd gen iPod touch
- Sony Walkman

All that happens is the device cycles telling me it is charging/ not charging. Kind of like in the movie "The Running Man" when the "Perimeter Deactivated" kept cycling on and off.

Yes, I know I can use the audio out from my iPhone; it would just be nice to be able to use the USB as it was intended.

I had no trouble with my Droid or DD iPod touch 4th gen. Are you on shore power when you are trying to charge them?

Ahh, but most of the Grey Wolfs don't have a concertone unit -it's some other (nearly) no name brand with crap for instructions.

And that item isn't compatible with an iphone or ipod touch anyway.

Thanks for the responses. Yes- I have the same Touch Audio system that we've been discussing in this thread. Looks like I have something to get my dealer to look at again.

So for those of you say it works- I assume that means you also have no problem charging you devices either?

I did that, but NOAA stays "ON" in the upper corner of the display. I have not been successful in turning it off. I just got the remote today. Still trying....

The only other thing to try is to tune your weather radio to a staion that you cannot pickup; that is only static.

I'm thinking with a handful of active threads; we may need to contact the manufacturer.

I'm bringing this back to the top. Have you gotten your ipod/iphone to work yet? Mine did the same cycling when I plugged it in. I can't remember if I was on shore power or not when I was trying.

Nope, I still haven't gotten mine working. I was at my dealer and they even tried swapping the stereo out; and that still had the same issue. He grabbed one of the other tech's iPhones and tried it- no luck.

So far for devices tried:
- 3 different iPhone 3GS's
- iPhone 4
- iPod Touch 1st Gen
- iPod touch 2nd Gen
- 3 different cables; each of which were tested before and after and were all able to sync each device to a laptop.

My service guy was going to call into the manufacturer. That was last week so I am still waiting to hear back.
