Child-Proof Door?
We just got back from our first weekend out with our camper. We had a nice time. Everything went well except we need to figure out a way to keep our 2 year old inside. Whenever he wants out her knows how to unlatch the door and out he goes! Tried the 'deadbolt' - no go - he just flips that and he's off!
Any good ideas out there? Is there a childproof deadbolt or lock that we can keep him contained? Looking on RV Locks now.

He's two and bull-headed like his dad. He'll probably pull it out of the wall.
Looks easy enough but not sure how it will hold up.

Someone in this forum, I forget who this was so I can't give him diserved credit.
I thought this was a great idea for our grandkids.
Anyway his idea was to reach thru the opening in the screen door, lift a pull the hand bar over in front of the screen door.

This is what we have been doing with our 2 year old and it's working good. She is trying to push through the mesh though. Gotta figure out how to stop that

I added plexiglass to my door to prevent this. I cut it to fit in the inside slots that go around the door.

Thanks for the parenting advice....I would if I wouldn't get tossed in the can and lose the kid to child services.

I asked this same question earlier and was bombarded with parenting advice.
I did the hook trick up high on the door and it has worked well so far.
Good luck-I also have a two year old.

I am going to visit ACE Hardware and see what I can come up with. There has to be something that would work good. Maybe I should market it when I figure it out!

Tried the outside grab handle idea. If you push on it it pops open. Must be a safety thing.

Some do, some don't. My daughter couldn't put her hip thru enough to pop open the grab handle with our tests. But, she didn't get nutty with it.
We only use it with the screen door and when we are awake. I wouldn't use it at night and rely on it popping open in case of an emergency.

We tried it when my wife needed something for when she was showering. She had our 10yr old autistic child, the 6 yr old and the 2 year old. My 10 yr old won't watch the 2 yr old; my 6 yr old does a good job but the 2 yr old can get away from her. She's not very strong or assertive. She needed to confine them when I was away at work.
Still brain-storming a good lock / hasp without making too many holes. The good, old fashioned hook may be the best.

Is a simple baby gate enough to deter them?
