Fireworks in the state parks ? How do feel about this ?

Our local news (eastern Nebraska) had a story this morning, that about 8 state parks and state recreation areas in Nebraska are going to allow fireworks to be shot off in the parks. These are not commercial shows, but allowing individuals to bring fireworks and shoot them off in the park. I personally have a bad feeling about this and don't like it at all. We've had run ins before with people at CG's throwing "illegal" fireworks around campsites.

Your Thoughts ?

Make that 6 parks...not 8

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says those recreation areas include Branched Oak near Malcolm, Fort Kearny near Kearney, Pawnee near Emerald, Wagon Train near Hickman and those near Memphis and Fremont. Those parks will permit fireworks from 8 a.m. until midnight on July 4 only.

Signs at recreation areas will point the way to designated fireworks sites, and their boundaries will be clearly marked. Use of fireworks elsewhere in state areas or at other times is prohibited.

updated: second part didn't make it on original post.

Fireworks are as American (of Chinese manufacture! LOL) as apple pie. It's the 4th of July time, for gosh sakes. Shoot 'em up. Have a ball. It's outside, it's not downtown Megalopolis. Have fun.

Stop at 10:00 pm.

That's how I feel about it.

Keep your awning in and watch your rubber roof.

Without a designated area, I see mass pandemonium happening. Campsite to close together for each individual site shooting fireworks.

At least they are here in Arkansas

Is this just for July 4th or all the time? I like fireworks but when I go to a state park I'm looking for peace and quiet. I also take my dog, who is terrified of fireworks, as most dogs are. Also, with people randomly shooting them off, I can foresee injuries with all the other people around.

I say no. Enough professional displays to go see without Uncle Eddie on his 18th Bud Light for the day firing fireworks off!

They did say designated areas, but that is like the speed limit is 75...how many follow that rule ?

While I agree with this statement, I have no faith in the general population to not shoot a rocket while standing under a tree and 15 campers within rock throwing distance

Seems stiffnecked.

Just my opinion. Of course, I pretty much dislike most rules.

Sorry to be a cranky old #%*+= but that’s nuts
I don’t camp to surround myself with noise.
It will stress out wildlife (and most camping pets) and rangers will have their hands full enforcing noise rules.
And fire risk? People are often not that bright when relaxing and enjoying a few drinks...

I like fireworks. Allowing this in a CG, I would feel the need to be near my property on "fire watch" duty while anyone was using fireworks.

My only reservation would be the mental level of the folks using the fireworks. There are some mental-skill-lacking individuals where ever you go and handing them a small explosive yet one with a rocket is a bad formula.

Thinking about this, I just had a cartoon play in my head, where Rodger Ramjet launches a bottle rocket onto Elmer Fudd's awning where it goes up in flames. Elmer then grabs his Bazooka and returns fire.

A couple years ago Eddie was two sites up from us and unleashed his commercial grade fireworks in the campground. We were all showered with hot ambers .
Many of us scrambling to pull in our awnings.
Camp host did nothing, turns out they were related.
We no long camp on the 4th of July, too many Eddies.

It's not the concept of celebration of our nation that I have a pause for.

It's the YouTube, hold my beer, types that will cause the problem.

Just talked to my neighbor and they just cancelled their reservation at one of the parks. He's a vet and admits that fireworks bug him a little, so they've gone to this park for years as they didn't allow fireworks, but could see the local displays off in the distance.

The OP edited his first post with more comforting details while I was writing my response to the original text. I'm just a slow typist with having to use this darn pencil on my forehead.

Well, I run across very few "Cousin Eddie's" to be honest. If one is shooting fireworks, of course that's a problem. But why make rules just for the rare exception? I hate those kind of rules. I get excluded from exercising many freedoms just because some nutbag misuses that freedom. Penalize those who are goofballs, but let the rest of us enjoy the Total Freedom that we spent years protecting.

Che Sera, Sera.

Laissez Faire.

Caveat Emptor.

And all that.

Its a shame for the pets and our vets that like to get away to a semi quiet place to relax and some Wingnut has to set off fireworks!
