First TT, First Post

I've been lurking here for a few months now researching all the great info. Thanks to all who have posted. Its been very useful. We just got our first RV a week ago, a Grey Wolf 25RL Limited Edition. We had it out for a shake down cruise this weekend and I thought I would return the favor and share some notes for anyone looking at these. Only two problems were found during our first trip: 1. USB charging ports at the entry door don't work. 2. The cabinet door over the dinette came apart at the frame joints, a litte wood glue fixed it. I will try to fix the USB ports this week. I am going to notify the dealer and Forest River of the QC issues but it's not worth the hassle of hauling it in if I can fix it. From the posts I've read I gather these QC issues are not unusual but they are still annoying.

Other than the issues above we are very happy with it so far. The only thing we really wish was different in the floor plan would be for it to have sliding doors for the bathroon instead of hinged. The open doors get in the way some times. Love the light from the skylights but it can be a bit bright and hot midday. I cut some foam board inserts for both. I had a tinted bathroom fan cover installed at purchase. The mattress is vey hard so we bought some foam mattress padding and that made it much better. The storage area under the bed is difficult to access especially with the added weight of the mattress padding so I made a prop to hold it open. That's it for my weeks worth of RV'ing experience review.

Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear about the issues. A good PDI from the dealership could had found both issues and fixed them prior to your walkthrough & delivery. This is keeping in mind about the cabinet issue not being visible prior to leaving the factory.

You are not alone about the bed being hard. Its really common to add memory foam mattress pad or even exchange the mattress out. Even with a 4" memory foam mattress pad I could still feel the plywood underneath. My unit came with a futon mattress that was swamped out right away for a real mattress. I gave the futon mattress to my sister to use as dog pad for her large dog.

Making a prop to hold up the lid to access under the bed storage is a great idea. Some members have installed lifts and some day. Others have cut & added a door or drawers to their under bed storage for easy access.

Welcome! My 2 cents: Ditch the mattress. Go online and research foam bedding. A good foam mattress will become worth its weight in gold when it comes to your overall camping experience. Trust me on this. A good nights sleep is priceless.

Also, good that you are "handy". Lots of little issues crop up with TT's (and everything else). If you were to have the dealer or FR address each and every new issue, you'd never have time to camp! Get comfortable with basic tools, 12v systems, plumbing and woodworking etc. You'll be glad you did. Enjoy.

If you can, buy a sleep number bed. We tried quite a few mattresses, toppers, etc., etc. We always had some problem with them.

We have friends, who have a sleep number mattress in their house. After hearing about how much they liked it, we bought one for the RV (they make an RV queen). It took a couple of nights to find our settings, but after that, it has been wonderful.

Be sure to read the manual. You will need to deflate it most of the way, while driving (to protect the bladders), but that takes all of 10 seconds to do.

We've now been using ours for over a year and love it.

Welcome from Lower Arkansas. We just bought our first TT back in June. It's a 26RL. We too bought a mattress topper for ours about 2 or 3 nights into our first extended camping trip. It's a 3" memory foam from Wally World. Made all the difference in the world. Since then, we've been seriously talking about adding a 2" one under the pillow top of our aging sleep number bed at home to get a couple of more years out of it before we have to replace it.

We are picking up a 25RL tomorrow and are really excited...Im planning to bring a charging cord for my phone and check all of those USB ports. I agree on the bath doors, but we will make it work! Thanks for the heads up on the cabinet.
