Forest River Warranty Feedback

Hello out there! We're picking up our new Grey Wolf 26DBH in the next day or so. We're considering purchasing the extended warranty through Forrest River. Of course our dealer is trying to sell their extended warranty for a lot more money. However, she mentioned the Forrest River warranty is a lot harder to work with. I have no doubt she's pushing her warranty to make the extra money. But I want to see if anyone has had problems (or positive experiences) using the extended warranty through Forrest River.

As always, thanks to everyone who takes the time to provide their feedback!

Lots of discussions on the forum. Do a quick search on extended warranties. Most all agree the FR 2nd year is the best deal. The dealer doesn't make money on that on so they are pushing the third party warranty. Ask for a copy of both and read it carefully. Lots of gotcha's in some of them. If it was me, I would take the FR 2nd year.

IMHO the Forest River warranty is the way to go. Don't walk away from the dealer extended warranty, run!

The 2nd year FR factory warranty is the same as the 1st year warranty, in my experience. Everything that the 1st year covered, was covered in the 2nd year.

FR Warranty

We purchased the FR extended warranty and it came in handy a couple of times. We had no issues and when the FR 2nd year warranty was about to expire we purchased a five year plan from Wholesale. We haven't had to use the Wholesale warranty yet but a friend who had a motor home used it for a major repair and had no problems.

I was told by the dealer that the 2nd year warranty was not available for dealer repair on Cherokee. I received NO RESPONSE from Forest River about buying the 2nd year warranty directly which begets a "no confidence" in the warranty program from me.

Additionally I was not able to get the contact information for the Forest River Warranty Department where my trailer was built (Harrisburg, Oregon). It is not listed in the FR directory and corporate email again resulted in NO RESPONSE getiing another "No Confidence" from me. The dealer stated that FR does not deal directly with the public on the Cherokee line.

All that being said. I love my Cherokee 264L trailer, it is a great deal for the price. The dealer fixed all the warranty issues and I just fix everything else myself now.

Happy Trails!

Your dealer is blowing smoke. Did you buy a new or used TT. If you bought it used then there is no 2nd year warranty. Cherokee TT's do have 2nd year warranty available for $150 and covers all the same items as the 1st year. Call Ronda at 574-534-33167 - She handles all the 2nd year warranty applications. If you don't have the form she can email it to you. If you got your TT more than 90 days ago you will need to explain to her what the dealer is telling you and she may be able to waive the expiration period. If you got your TT less than 90 days ago you should be ok to get the 2nd year warranty. If you have any other contact needs you will find them at the Corporate web site www.forestriverinc.com Just click on contacts, there you will find phone numbers and email addresses for all the divisions.

If you go to the news page of the FROG website you'll find an article about the extended warranty, including links to the application form and prices. Go to Forest River Owners Group - The official owner's group of Forest River RV, manufacturer of world-class recreational vehicles.

If you can't get satisfaction in 2 years what makes you think a long term $$ fixer upper warranty is going to be any better. Average life span of a new RV by the same owner is 3.5 to 4.5 years. If it ain't right the first 6 months and you don't get it corrected, shame on you.

Jeff,

Please find the brochure for the sealants, attached.

The rates you noted and we discussed are accurate.

Forest River offers a 1 year factory warranty. I donít offer a 2nd year, through the manufacturer.

However, we do offer a comprehensive extended warranty -- please see attachment.

Kevin - please contact Mr. Atwood and assist him with the full coverage Good Sam Insurance he has requested.

The details regarding the Good Sam savings will be issued to you, on day of delivery.

Thanks,
Peter

My camper developed a couple of issues during the second year FR extended warranty period. 1) Motor on the electric awning froze. 2) Bathroom countertop started to delaminate. Both the awning motor and the countertop were replaced, including labor, at no cost to me and with no hassles.

Let's start by saying that i am very handy with the small stuff and can usually take care of it. I don't know how much they are charging for extended warranties now but it isn't cheap. We have been camping for 45 years and in that time e may have spent a couple of thousand dollars for repairs. Far less than the cost of extended warranty contracts.

The key here is that this CW dealer does not offer the 2nd year warranty. Says something about them. BUT you can go to the link below and send it in yourself. I would also send in a copy of the email from CW.

Don't know if he's blowin' smoke or not. Reason I say this is because we recently purchased a new Coachmen TT and I thought since it is a Forest River product, I could get the 2nd year warranty...... Wrong. Apparently FR warranty only applies to the original FR lines and not the Coachmen line. Don't know anything about Cherokee, but maybe the same thing.

FR charged me $150 for the second year bumper to hitch warranty, no deductible.

"Forest River offers a 1 year factory warranty. I don’t offer a 2nd year, through the manufacturer."

I'm too ignorant on Coachman, but assuming that FR does provide the 2nd year warranty, then I'd say this is a cleverly worded sentence. It's absolutely correct as written. But fails to mention you can get FR's 2nd year warranty through FR.

[When I read this sentence, I pictured those 2 sleazy lawyers in the Hupy and Abraham commercials writing it! ]

And, coming from CW, I'm inclined to believe FR does provide the 2nd yr warranty.

glsimms, you're approximately right. The Optional Protection Plan does not apply to Coachmen, Shasta, and Prime Time products or to motorized RVs. Other Forest River towable lines are covered.
