Furnace help!!! Cherokee 27rk

We bought this great unit used. It's a 2015 model. We just started to use the furnace tonight. Air seems to be blowing from the furnace but not through the floor vents.

Does anyone know if this is correct or how to get the warm air to blow through the floor vents.

I have attached a pic. The warm air is blowing from this area below the oven. Click image for larger version

It sounds like your front metal cover of the furnace is not in place and air is coming through the front panel. I would remove front wood grill and see if furnace metal cover is in place. In my unit I don't have air coming from front grill, that is the air intake (return) to furnace.....

The grate you show is the cold air return. One or more of the aluminum hoses connected to the heater has fallen off or was never connected. This

Okay. I tried to take the grill off and there are either special screws or they are stripped. Oh Lordy it's gonna be cold tonight lol. Would it hurt it to run it like this? It warmed things up for a bit when I had it on but I'm not sure what (if any) damage it would do

I would not want to run a GAS HEATER with any defects. Do you have 120 volt AC power available? If so, run your heat pump (if equipped) or a portable electric heater.

Bnanewbie.....make absolutely sure you have a carbon monoxide monitor in your RV.....no debate about how serious that can be. And I'm not talking about a smoke detector either. Although Smoke Detectors are critical also. Bluepill is absolutely right about what he said. You could wake up dead if things aren't working right. Don't take ANY chances at all. I was in the heating and AC business for 40 years, so I know what I'm talking about.

I had the same problem wih my Flagstaff 5th wheel. No air from the vents in the coach and warm air blowing through the grate bleow the oven. Had never really used the furnace until the Yukon trip this past Aug & Sept. When i took the grate off i learned that there was a knockout in the bottom of the furnace and the ducts were hooked up to it. The problem was that there was also a knock out on the top of the furncace ("6 inches x 12")that had been "knocked out" by someone & the air was blowing out the top of the furmace. Path of least resistance. As a temporary fix i had a 1/4 " steel plate cut and set it on top of the furnace to cover the hole. Air imediately started flowing through the ducts.

It was out of warranty but when i sent pictures to Forest River they replaced the furnace since it had obviously left the factory with this hole.

The bits for the screws that hold the front grill on take a small square bit. Looks like a phillips stripped out when you try one.

Is there an opening in the floor of the furnace and trailer? That is where my heater ducts are connected.

Yes the ducts are below this. You can see the silver tape. Is it possible to call forest river directly or do I have to go to a dealer?

So I think since this is a pre-owned unit, the previous owner might have removed the from cover as show in the pictures I posted. I would cover the the front and see if it blows air out of the floor vents. Be careful that the cover you put in front does get too hot. If it works, then you would need to get a metal cover installed. Dealer should be able to help.

There should be a cover on there, have you looked around in the space for the missing cover.
Ours had fallen off in our 2608ws and was behind the trim panels

YES! The cover has been removed for some reason. You can see the flange with screw holes in it, this is where the cover is fastened on. Take it to a dealer and have them order the proper cover or make one to fit. Sealing this furnace forces the air across its burners and then out the bottom and out the floor vents.

I don't think there is any safety concerns running without the cover. There is no pilot light and don't believe any exposed flames. However it is not going to run nearly as efficient as it should. A service tech would run it that way if servicing it but not for any longer than necessary. I would not use it till it is properly checked and repaired.

So I went to the dealer. Coincidentally they had inspection notes that the plate was missing so they are fixing it

You can run it like that . I'll bet it was removed like that because with the front panel on very little if any hot air was making it though the cheap dryer hose duct work and did not heat the unit

your fine running as is but there are things you can do to make it better still

Screws probably not stripped, they are most likely square head screws. The RV industry seems to love them.

Well, that's certainly "convenient"!
