Likely it's the switch for the gas to the water heater.

Could this be the switch for the holding tank heaters?

I have the same situation and the same question. My water heater runs fine with the switch off (using propane). My holding tanks do not have heaters. Is it possible that the water heater runs off of electricity when this switch is on? Do we need to move this to the Tech forum?

I search the forums and got the answer. The switch is for propane operation.

This is somewhat contrary to the Suburban WH in our Rockwood. In our trailer if this light is ON it means that even though I have asked for the WH to work using propane it has failed to do so. In other words, (and again in our trailer) this light is a WARNING light and not an INDICATOR light.

We have 2011 Blue Ridge 3705BHS and ours works as FRANKM describes. When the switch is turned on the light stays on until the igniter and propane burner ignites and then goes out. If the propane igniter goes out the red light will come on to let you know the water heater is not functioning.

I have a 2011 Grey Wolf and this switch is to turn on the gas water heater. What I cannot understand is why the electric water heater switch is outside.

I only had my Grey wolf out 2 times the electric plug for the water
heater was pluged in & i had the power from the campground electric.
I also had the propane turned on not sure if the switch was on or off.
Cant check anything right now as there is no water in it & i have
antifreeze in all the lines. Thanks for your post

i have a 2011 grey wolf, i can't tell you why it's outside but it is, if you open the outside cover on the water heater there is sort of a pin you have to pull out for it to work on electric. thats the only way it will work on electric, if you don't it's propane only.

My electric part of the heater is outside also. The switch they are refering to inside is to use the propane for heating the water tank. I wish they would have put the electric switch inside also.

A lot of people have rerouted that switch to inside their trailer. It's not a difficult mod, but could be fun depending on exactly where your outside switch is. If I remember correctly, mine is behind a bunch of "stuff", and I could barely get my finger back there to flip it. I really need to reroute mine!

In a way they kind of did, in the form of the breaker. If you have easy access to the panel, you can leave the outside (hard to reach) switch on and flip the breaker inside. There was some discussion a while back and opinions were split, some in favor (and actually doing just that) others didn't like the idea of using the breaker as an everyday switch.

I agree Big Dawg, I wish they would have put the electric switch inside also. I use electric when ever I can.
EdJunior I been thinking about rerouting the switch also.
